Connecticut was forced to close several parks over the weekend due to the crowds flocking to them amid spring weather, officials said.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection closed at least 11 parks Saturday after they became too crowded under social distancing guidelines implemented to stop the spread of coronavirus.

“We have so many people coming out and enjoying the parks, which is on one hand fantastic and on another hand it is causing some difficulties,” Tom Tyler, who is the director of state parks, told NBC Connecticut.

“And folks are in close proximity to one another if we didn’t reduce capacities at some locations and people weren’t really really diligent about social distancing.”

Among the parks that reached capacity were Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown and Talcott Mountain State Park in Simsbury.

The park closures were temporary and they were expected to be reopened Sunday, officials said.

“I kind of joke if you’ve heard of a state park before don’t go there, go someplace else. Find a new one,” Tyler said.

The warmer it gets, the more people will spend outside their home.......this isn't winter where people hibernate.

Here in Pa, people were out & about yesterday at the parks.....the bike trails were packed, but people still practiced distancing.

Nevada can't even figure out to allow people to take the scenic drives through local parks...that means they drive and don't even get out of the car. The state is in the bottom five nationwide in education and you can see how it impacts decision making when those idiots become leaders.

I live in a boating community. After seeing how many people are partying and grilling in large groups this weekend, it won't shock me to see something similar from local officials.

It doesn't happen everywhere......mostly in left-wing liberal states.

Same here Captain, I live on the Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter line and they are having a 500+ boat parade today starting at the Square Grouper, heading down to Mar-Largo and coming back up by the beach side. It will be interesting to see what becomes of this.

They've closed parks in the past when they get overcrowded

This became an issue when they made parking free at state parks for all Connecticut license plates.

People don't car pool anymore, and people don't mind going for short stays.

As for social distancing, that would still be easy for anybody that's trying
