The tenth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers and fifth-ranked Oregon Ducks are back in BCS bowl games, and while neither team will get the chance to fight for a national title, a win at the Rose Bowl would be more than good enough as a consolation prize. The Ducks had their shot at a BCS Championship a year ago when they lost to the Auburn Tigers, and weren’t able to prove that they were ready for the SEC when they suffered the first of two losses this year against the top-ranked LSU Tigers, but get their shot on the national stage against the Big Ten champions Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, the Badgers took a different route to their second Rose Bowl in as many years, and will be aiming for redemption when they get their shot. Wisconsin failed to convert a two-point attempt in their loss to TCU in last year’s Rose Bowl, but have a renewed sense of optimism with Heisman trophy finalist Montee Ball leading the way for the underdogs according to the per head bookies.

Ball, who ran for an incredible 1,759 yards and 32 touchdowns behind an incredible set of offensive linemen, will be relied on heavily once again in the Badgers’ biggest game of the year. The junior running back led the FBS in yards and total touchdowns with 38, and he is still in reach of Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season mark of 42. Wisconsin also has a star at quarterback in Russell Wilson, who threw 31 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions as opponents constantly stacked the box. The Badgers have momentum on their side after finishing the year with five straight wins, but it will once again come down to execution on the biggest stage.

While Wisconsin has one of the top-ranked offenses in the nation, it won’t take any bookie software to figure out that the Ducks have some explosive weapons of their own, led by running back LaMichael James. James rushed for 1,646 yards and 17 touchdowns, but if Oregon is going to control the tempo of this game they will need more from quarterback Darron Thomas. Thomas threw for 2,493 yards and 30 touchdowns, helping Oregon place one higher than the Badgers in scoring offense at third in the nation.

While the Ducks have several explosive talents, Wisconsin has some of their own in a group led by Ball, who have the potential to at the least keep this one close. The Badgers had some tough games early on, but came on strong at the end of the season, and actually have a strong potential to win this game straight up, never mind cover the price per head service number.
