Bruins' G Tuukka Rask, questionable Sunday

Rask left Saturday's game with a case of dehydration according to Claude Julien. He is questionable for Sunday's game against the Hurricanes.

Islanders still a hot under play

The under is now 7-0-1 in the New York Islanders last eight games after their 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks Saturday night.

The streak, which has seen the Islanders score just 1.5 goals per game, puts them at 34-40-2 over/under for the season.

The Isles play their second game in as many days Sunday when they host the Detroit Red Wings with a total of 5.5.

Blue Jackets hot as underdogs

The Columbus Blue Jackets topped the St. Louis Blues 4-2 Saturday night for their sixth straight win and fifth in a row as +135 underdogs or greater.

More impressive, is the fact the Jackets have been big road dogs in four of those five games.

The Blue Jackets are off until Tuesday when they will most likely be home favorites against the New Jersey Devils.

Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

Some more baseball over/under prop bets, courtesy of South Point casino.......

-- Total home runs for Miguel Cabrera, 31

-- Total wins for Jered Weaver, 13.5

-- Total hits for Pablo Sandoval, 156

-- Total hits for Robinson Cano, 173.5

-- Total wins for Johnny Cueto, 12.5

-- Total home runs for Albert Pujols, 26.5

**********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend......

13) Michigan State 76, Louisville 70 OT-- Izzo is now 21-4 in turnaround games, as Spartans bench had 26-5 scoring edge in game they trailed by 8 at half. This is 4th time in last five years a team seeded 7th or lower made the Final Four.

12) Duke 66, Gonzaga 52-- Zags' Wiltjer had an easy layup to tie game with 4:51 left, but missed badly and Gonzaga was outscored 13-1 from that point on. Three 1-seeds make the Final Four, most since all four made it in '08. Last five years, only one 1-seed each year had made the Final Four.

11) DePaul hired Dave Leitao as its coach, 10 years after he bolted DePaul to be head coach at Virginia. Leitao got the Blue Demons to NCAAs in 2004, when they played in what was a pretty good Conference USA. Twitter mainly bashed the hiring, but the guy knows the school, has had success there, and he'll probably stay there.

10) St John's has offered Chris Mullin its coaching job; no answer yet. Mullin has no coaching experience, but is an alumnus and a famous name who has been an NBA GM-- Interweb reports say he is expected to accept the job.

9) Former Manhattan coach Barry Rohrssen is a good pal of Mullin's and would be an ace recruiter for the Red Storm, but he's still a little busy, being an assistant coach for Kentucky. Mullin will need to hire two solid recruiters.

8) Cal-Irvine's Russell Turner turned George Mason down; he has some experience in the NBA, so likely could land a bigger job than George Mason down the road. Plus, he has 7-foot-6 Ndiaye coming back; the Anteaters will be good again next season.

7) Utah State waited a long time before announcing they hired from within, naming assistant coach Tim Duryea to replace longtime coach Stew Morrill.

6) One more Izzo note: he is now 13-9 in NCAA tourney games when they wear green jerseys, which means they're the lower-seeded team. 13-9 as a lower seed.

5) Would people really buy a Buick just because it has WiFi? Seriously?

4) Little unusual that college hockey takes this week off, waiting until April 9-11 to have the Frozen Four. Extra week gets them lot more attention, since basketball will obviously be front-and-center all this week.

3) Jimmy Walker wins the PGA Tour event in San Antonio, making him first repeat winner this season, and first 54-hole leader in 11 weeks to win that tournament.

2) In last 12 NCAA tournaments, eight regional final games went to overtime; thats 8 out of 48 games, a pretty high number.

1) At no point this season did I think Michigan State was a Final Four team; they lost at home to Texas Southern Dec 20, they're 3-5 in overtime games this year, lost at home to Minnesota and Illinois, but they're mentally tough and they're still playing.

Game of the Day: Canadiens at Lightning
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens (-135, 5)

The Montreal Canadiens look to avoid a season-series sweep Monday and hand the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning their first three-game losing streak of the campaign. The Canadiens have been outscored 16-5 in four losses against the Lightning, including a 1-0 overtime defeat in the last meeting at Montreal on March 10. Tampa Bay, trailing the first-place Canadiens by three points in the Atlantic Division, comes in off Saturday’s 4-0 loss at Detroit when it lost two key performers to injuries.

Top-four defenseman Jason Garrison was sent back home to be evaluated after suffering an upper-body injury and physical forward Cedric Paquette sustained a lower-body injury Saturday. The Lightning’s magic number is two points to clinch a playoff spot and they need one victory to set a single-season franchise record. The game matches the league’s top scoring team (Tampa Bay) against the NHL’s top defensive team (Montreal) -- led by Hart and Vezina Trophy candidate goalie Carey Price.

LINE HISTORY: Most shops opened the Habs around -127, but it was sitting at -135 at the time of writing.

INJURY REPORT: TB - Paquette (Ques), Garrison (Out), Coburn (Early April), Ohlund (IR). MON - Gilbert (Ques)

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (46-23-7): Tampa Bay was shut out for the first time since December of 2013 on Saturday and has been blanked on 11 power-play attempts over the last two contests. Captain Steven Stamkos has 40 goals – tied for second in the league with Rick Nash of the New York Rangers – has not scored in four games, but boasts five against the Canadiens this season. With veterans Garrison and Braydon Coburn (lower body) out, the Lightning must go with three defensemen with less than 120 NHL games of experience.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS (47-21-8): Max Pacioretty has posted five points in the last five games to match his career high (65) and his team-leading 36th goal beat Florida 3-2 in overtime Saturday, leaving him three from tying his all-time best. Tomas Plekanec has recorded eight points in eight contests to equal defenseman P.K. Subban for second in the team with 53 and is two shy of 200 career goals. Blue liner Tom Gilbert (jaw) is expected to miss his fourth straight game Monday, but could return next week.

TRENDS:

*Lightning are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
*Over is 5-1-2 in the last 8 meetings.
*Lightning are 1-4 in their last 5 road games.
*Under is 6-1-2 in Canadiens last 9 home games.

Road teams have a big day on the ice Sunday

Sunday was a good day for bettors to back road teams, with them going 6-1-1 straight up yesterday.

Away teams have been the better bet over the past seven days, cashing 56 percent of the time.

The New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins were the only home teams to win Sunday.

Lack of goals has Devils going under

The New Jersey Devils continue to struggle to score goals, falling 2-1 to the Anaheim Ducks Sunday, resulting in the Devils being a hot under bet.

The Devils are scoring just 1.6 points per game over their last nine games where the under is 7-0-2 and the run now has them as the second best under bet in the NHL at 22-45-9 over/under.

New Jersey will try to keep the run going when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday.

NHL roundup: Bruins inch closer to playoffs with win

RALEIGH, N.C. -- David Pastrnak scored with 37 seconds left in overtime and goalie Tuukka Rask returned in net to stop 30 shots as the Boston Bruins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 Sunday and inch closer to the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Boston (38-25-13) was 1-3-3 in its previous seven games, allowing Ottawa back into the chase over the last few weeks for the final spot in the Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff spot. However, the Senators lost to Florida and now trail the Bruins, who have six games left, by three points. Ottawa does have one game in hand.

Left winger Nathan Gerbe scored for Carolina and center Ryan Spooner scored for Boston in regulation.

Panthers 4, Senators 2

OTTAWA -- Winger Jaromir Jagr scored twice to lead Florida to a victory over Ottawa in a game with significant playoff race implications at Canadian Tire Centre.

The win kept alive the Panthers hopes at the final wild card spot as it improved to 85 points. Panthers goalie Dan Ellis made a surprise start and was solid, making 25 saves. Senators goalie Craig Anderson made 33 stops.

Winger Jussi Jokinen and center Dave Bolland also scored for Florida while the Senators got goals from center Jean-Gabriel and defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Flames 5, Predators 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Scoring four straight goals, Calgary moved into the third playoff spot in the Pacific Division with a win over Nashville at sold-out Bridgestone Arena.

Goalie Jonas Hiller made 27 saves as Calgary (41-28-7) finished the season 3-0-0 against Nashville. Backup goalie Carter Hutton (6-6-4), who got the call after goalie Pekka Rinne drew 11 straight starts, stopped 25 shots for the Predators (47-22-8).

Center Lance Bouma scored twice, and Kris Russell, left winger Michael Ferland and center Jiri Hudler scored one each for Calrgary. Defensemen Roman Josi and Seth Jones scored for the Predators.

Islanders 5, Red Wings 4

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The struggling and skidding New York Islanders enjoyed their best offensive day of the month, coming back from an early two-goal deficit to edge Detroit at Nassau Coliseum.

Centers Brock Nelson, Frans Nielsen and Ryan Strome, and right wingers Kyle Okposo and Cal Clutterbuck scored for the Islanders while goalie Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves.

Center Tomas Tatar, left winger Drew Miller, defenseman Niklas Kronwall and center Pavel Datsyuk scored for the Red Wings and goalie Jimmy Howard recorded 15 saves in relief of Petr Mrazek, who was pulled less than one minute into the second after allowing four goals on 11 shots.

Capitals 5, Rangers 2

NEW YORK -- Right winger Alex Ovechkin scored his 48th and 49th goals of the season and left winger Jason Chimera added two goals in the third period as Washington topped the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Center Marcus Johansson scored an empty-net goal with 2:23 remaining to seal the victory The win pulled the Capitals (41-25-10) to within one point of second place in the Metropolitan Division. Goaltender Braden Holtby allowed two goals late in the first period but was otherwise splendid in making 23 saves.

Centers Kevin Hayes and Derick Brassard scored for the Rangers, who received 26 saves from goaltender Cam Talbot.

Ducks 2, Devils 1

NEWARK, N.J. -- Rookie goaltender John Gibson continued his brilliant play by stopping 26 shots and Ryan Kesler and Francois Beauchemin each scored a goal, leading Anaheim over New Jersey at the Prudential Center.

The victory was the third straight for the Ducks (49-22-7) while the loss was the fifth straight for the Devils (31-33-12), who were eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the day when Boston defeated Carolina.

The Devils got a goal from Dainius Zubrus while goalie Cory Schneider made 24 saves in vain.

Blackhawks 4, Jets 3

WINNIPEG -- Jonathan Toews scored with 30.8 seconds remaining to give Chicago a come-from-behind win over Winnipeg.

Forwards Andrew Shaw, Brad Richards and Patrick Sharp also scored for Chicago (45-24-6), which moved back into third place in the Central Division.

Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien scored two power-play goals in the second period for the Jets, and forward Blake Wheeler added a short-handed marker for Winnipeg (39-25-12).

Penguins 3, Sharks 2 (SO)

PITTSBURGH -- Center Sidney Crosby and left winger David Perron scored in a shootout to lift Pittsburgh past San Jose at Consol Energy Center.

Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves through regulation and overtime and stopped both Sharks shooters he faced in the shootout. Sharks goalie Alex Stalock made 31 saves in the loss.

Blues turn to struggling Elliott Monday

According to Andy Strickland of Fox Sports Midwest, Brian Elliott will get the start for the St. Blues when they host the Vancouver Canucks Monday.

The 29-year-old netminder has been struggling of late, losing his last three decisions and has allowed seven goals on 32 shots in his previous two starts (at Minnesota, versus Columbus).

Elliott has posted a record of 24-13-3 on the season and has a 2.18 goals against average and .920 save percentage on the year.

At present, the Blues are -165 on the moneyline.

Lightning dominant versus Habs this season

The Tampa Bay Lightning are 4-0 versus the Montreal Canadiens this season and will look to extend that dominance as +115 dogs at the Habs Monday evening.

The Lightning have cashed as -145, -101, +105 and -122 on the moneyline in those four victories.

Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- VCU coach Shaka Smart might be the Texas coach by the time you read this; he was talking to Longhorn brass Monday night.

-- Duke is first ACC team in the Final Four since 2010.

-- Atlanta Falcons lose a 5th-round draft pick for piping in fake crowd noise for their games; weird part is the fake noise was from a soccer game.

-- WR Miles Austin signed a 1-year deal with the Eagles.

-- Houston Rockets lose PG Patrick Beverley (wrist) for the season.

-- Kyle Korver scored 11 points in 1:05 last night; shooters are marketable; that is something that will never change.

**********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but..........

13) If you're Texas or Alabama and you need a basketball coach, don't you at least have to give Mike Brey a call and see if he'd like to make $3M a year?

12) Fordham hired a good coach from Eastern Kentucky, but got abused anyway because the guy......is from Eastern Kentucky. Jeff Neubauer was a top assistant for John Beilein, so he's a damn good coach, but the question will be whether he can recruit at the A-14 level. Players win games.

Some people on Twitter were actually questioning whether Fordham was a better job than Eastern Kentucky; EKU made the NCAAs last season.

11) Chris Mullin said yes to St John's, so the big question becomes who will he hire as assistant coach/recruiters? Mullin has never coached, so he'll need an experienced tactician and a couple sharp recruiters.

10) Georgia State's RJ Hunter will skip his senior year, enter the NBA Draft, leaving his dad/coach behind after a memorable season.

9) Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin was medically cleared to resume coaching duties, after sitting out most of this season with a non-life-threatening heart ailment, so thats good news for Cronin and the Bearcats.

8) Not sure why the Indianapolis Colts are letting coach Chuck Pagano enter the 2015 season as a lame duck coach, but it looks like they are.

7) Arena Football games are being shown on CBS Sports Network; great shots during replay reviews, with referee miked and you can see what he's looking at as he reviews the call.

6) NFL suspended Cleveland GM Ray Farmer for four games for texting the Browns' bench during games. This is a classic case of having too damn many rules, much like the deflated balls thing. Let teams do what they want and you'll have less drama. Who cares if the GM drives the coach nuts during games?

5) MLB Network is tremendous in March; 3-4 games on TV every day, either live or taped. Lets you get a feel for all the teams.

4) I'm not a big fan of teams batting the pitcher 8th; don't understand why it is done, other than Tony Larussa used to do it so people assume it is smart. How would you like to explain to a 9th-place hitter why he bats behind the pitcher?

3) Knicks fired their D-League coach with four games left in season, which seems unfair, seeing as the Knicks' D-League team plays in Madison Square Garden, disguised as the Knicks.

2) Eldrick Woods is now ranked #104 in the world and sinking; it is the first time since 1996 he is outside the top 100.

1) You learn about baseball teams when you watch other team's broadcast; the home side rarely gives the down side of their club- they're usually pretty eager to talk honestly about the other team.

Underdogs have a perfect night on the ice

It was a great time to back underdogs in NHL action Monday night, with the pups going a perfect 6-0 straight up.

More impressive was the fact road dogs went 5-0, but the dogs have been trending over the past seven days, going 34-11-6.

That is huge considering dogs are only cashing 40.3 percent of the time this season.

Rask dominant versus Panthers in his career

Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has dominated the Florida Panthers throughout his career, posting a record of 11-1-1, a 1.05 goals against average and .963 save percentage. The save percentage and GAA are Rask's best numbers versus any NHL team.

It is not confirmed whether Rask will get the nod to start when the Panthers visit the Bruins Tuesday.

NHL roundup: Lightning clinch playoff bid

MONTREAL -- Center Vladislav Namestnikov scored two goals and assisted on another, and the Tampa Bay Lightning wrapped up a playoff spot with a 5-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night at the Bell Centre.

Left winger Jonathan Drouin, right winger Nikita Kucherov and defenseman Anton Stralman also scored for the Lightning, who swept the five-game season series and set a franchise record for wins in a season with their 47th.

Left winger Max Pacioretty and defenseman Jeff Petry scored for the Canadiens.

Goaltender Ben Bishop, who picked up a pair of assists, stopped 25 shots for Tampa Bay. Carey Price made 39 saves for Montreal, which has lost seven straight against the Lightning.

Canucks 4, Blues 1

ST. LOUIS -- Vancouver used a second-period goal from center Nick Bonino to break a tie and record a win over St. Louis, the Canucks' fourth successive road victory.

Vancouver beat the Blues for the sixth straight time, including four of the last five in St. Louis.

Center Shawn Matthias, right winger Radim Vrbata and left winger Alexandre Burrows also scored for the Canucks. Goalie Eddie Lack made 23 saves. Defenseman Zbynek Michalek scored for the Blues, his first goal since being acquired from Arizona at the trade deadline.

Blackhawks 4, Kings 1

CHICAGO -- Continuing to make a late-season push up the playoff ladder, the Chicago Blackhawks got the better of a team in the same boat, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 Monday at the United Center.

Chicago, which won for the sixth time in nine games, prevailed behind the stellar play of backup goalie Scott Darling, giving No. 1 goalie Corey Crawford a night off. Darling stopped all but one of the Kings' 32 shots to improve his season record to 8-3-0.

The same couldn't be said for the Kings and goalie Jonathan Quick. Los Angeles was rocked by an identical 4-1 score for the second straight game, and so was Quick, who managed to stop just 35 of Chicago's 39 shots.

Oilers 4, Avalanche 1

DENVER -- Goaltender Richard Bachman had 29 saves, defenseman Brandon Davidson scored his first NHL goal, and Edmonton beat Colorado.

Defensemen Justin Schultz and Nikita Niktin and left winger Taylor Hall also scored for the Oilers, who have won three straight. Edmonton center Andrew Miller had three assists, and center Anton Lander had two.

Center Ryan O'Reilly scored and goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 shots for the Avalanche.

Flames 5, Stars 3

DALLAS -- Calgary left winger Johnny Gaudreau, center Jiri Hudler and defenseman Dennis Wideman each had a goal and an assist, and goaltender Jonas Hiller stopped 33 of 36 shots as the Flames defeated Dallas.

Calgary trailed 2-1 after one period but erupted for three unanswered goals within 6:49 to lead 4-2 at the second intermission.

Dallas left winger and captain Jamie Benn had two assists, and center Jason Spezza a goal and an assist. Center Tyler Seguin also scored for the Stars.

Sabres 4, Coyotes 1

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Defenseman Andrej Meszaros scored two goals to give him four in his past two games, and Buffalo downed Arizona for just its fifth road win in regulation or overtime this season.

The win drew Buffalo within four points of Arizona as the two teams jockey for the 30th spot in the NHL standings, which carries with it a guarantee of drafting either Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel, two centers considered to be franchise-altering players.

Meszaros had three goals in the team's first 74 games, but he is now three short of matching his career high of 10 set during his rookie season with Ottawa in 2005-06.
