TORONTO (AP) Carlos Santana homered in the 19th inning off infielder Darwin Barney and the Cleveland Indians set a franchise record by winning their 14th straight game, 2-1 over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

Cleveland won 13 straight in 1942 and again in 1951.

It's the longest winning streak since Atlanta won 14 straight in 2013. It's the longest by an AL team since Oakland won 20 in a row in 2002.

Santana doubled and scored in the third as the surging Indians survived a marathon game and disappointed a sellout crowd that came for a Canada Day matinee that lasted 6 hours and 13 minutes, featured 19 pitchers and saw 34 left on base.

The 19 innings matched the longest game in Blue Jays history. Toronto played 19 against Detroit in August 2014.

Having used seven of their eight relievers, the Indians turned to Saturday's scheduled starter, Trevor Bauer, in the 15th. Bauer (7-2) worked five innings for the win.

MARLINS 7, BRAVES 5, 12 INNINGS

ATLANTA (AP) - Marlins ace Jose Fernandez, making the first pinch-hit appearance of his career, drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run double in the 12th inning.

The dramatic moment overshadowed the meltdown of closer A.J. Ramos, who blew a rare save in the ninth for Miami. Ramos had converted 33 straight saves, one short of the franchise record.

Fernandez, one of baseball's most dynamic starters, began the game with a .222 batting average in 27 at-bats. With the pitcher's spot due up in the 12th and no position players available, Fernandez batted for reliever Nick Wittgren (3-1) and delivered the big hit.

Fernandez is Miami's starter Saturday.

Casey Kelly (0-3), the sixth Atlanta pitcher, took the loss.

METS 10, CUBS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Brandon Nimmo's three-run homer in the fourth inning was one of five home runs by New York off Jason Hammel in a game that ended Jacob deGrom's 10-start winless streak.

James Loney and Asbrubal Cabrera hit consecutive homers in the second inning, just before a 68-minute rain delay, and Cabrera hit a two-run drive in the fifth, shortly after Yoenis Cespedes' solo shot. New York hit five homers at home for the first time in 16 years, and Cespedes reached 20 homers in a season for the fifth time.

DeGrom (4-4) allowed one run and three hits in five-plus innings, leaving after the third delay - which brought the total to 1 hour, 19 minutes in a game that ended at 12:05 a.m.

Hammel (7-5) was tagged for career highs of 10 runs and five homers.

RED SOX 5, ANGELS 4

BOSTON (AP) - David Ortiz homered for his 2,000th hit with Boston and his 522nd career home run, moving into sole possession of 19th place on baseball's career list and breaking a tie he held with a trio of Hall of Famers including Red Sox great Ted Williams.

C.J. Cron hit a grand slam for the Angels, who lost their fourth straight and 10th in 11.

Craig Kimbrel finished up for his 17th save. Knuckleballer Steven Wright (9-5) got the win.

Jhoulys Chacin (2-5) allowed five runs on 12 hits in just 4 2/3 innings.

GIANTS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 4

PHOENIX (AP) - Conor Gillaspie fell a home run shy of the cycle and Johnny Cueto settled down after a rocky start to earn his 12th victory.

Trevor Brown doubled in two runs and Grant Green singled in two more for the Giants, who are 5-0 at Chase Field this season. San Francisco's Jarrett Parker added a solo homer off reliever Randall Delgado in the eighth.

Cueto (12-1) gave up four runs in the first three innings and blanked Arizona for the next four. The right-hander allowed seven hits in seven innings and struck out nine with no walks while improving to 8-0 on the road. Cueto joined Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs as the only 12-game winners in the National League.

NATIONALS 3, REDS 2, 14 INNINGS

WASHINGTON (AP) - Ben Revere doubled in the winning run with two outs in the 14th inning, and Washington got its sixth straight victory.

Revere's liner off the wall in right-center off Ross Ohlendorf (5-6) scored Danny Espinosa, who was hit by a pitch to start the inning.

Yusmeiro Petit (3-1), the sixth Washington pitcher, worked two innings for the win.

The last-place Reds have lost five straight and nine of 10. They battled for 4 hours, 30 minutes before falling in this one.

MARINERS 5, ORIOLES 2

SEATTLE (AP) - Kyle Seager and Dae-Ho Lee hit two-run homers to give Seattle Mariners a comeback victory.

Mariners starter Wade LeBlanc (1-0) picked up his first victory since Sept. 23, 2014, when he was with the Los Angeles Angels. LeBlanc, acquired in a trade with Toronto on June 22, played last season in Japan.

Steve Cishek worked the ninth for his 20th save in 24 opportunities.

Kevin Gausman (1-6) went six innings and allowed three runs and eight hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

ASTROS 5, WHITE SOX 0

HOUSTON (AP) - Carlos Gomez hit a two-run homer and Mike Fiers and three relievers combined for a shutout.

It was Houston's fourth straight victory and 11th in the last 12 games.

Fiers (6-3) scattered four hits over six innings.

The Astros didn't have a baserunner until Miguel Gonzalez (1-4) plunked George Springer to start the fourth inning.

RANGERS 3, TWINS 2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Ian Desmond homered to lead off the 10th inning and Sam Dyson and Texas held on for a victory.

Dyson notched his 17th save in 19 attempts. Matt Bush (3-1) pitched two scoreless innings for the win, which lifted the Rangers to a club-record 52-29 mark at the 81-game midpoint of their season.

Trevor Plouffe tied the game for the Twins with a two-run home run in the seventh that spoiled Martin Perez's shutout bid, but Desmond took Fernando Abad (1-3) deep to start the extra session.

DODGERS 5, ROCKIES 0

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Bud Norris pitched six strong innings while filling in for Clayton Kershaw in his Los Angeles debut and Adrian Gonzalez drove in two runs.

Acquired from Atlanta on Thursday, Norris (4-7) overpowered Colorado from the start, striking out seven of the first 14 hitters. The right-hander held the Rockies to a single and a double, and finished with eight strikeouts.

Jorge de la Rosa (5-5) gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings.

CARDINALS 7, BREWERS 1

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Matt Holliday drove in three runs and left-hander Jaime Garcia threw eight solid innings for St. Louis.

The Cardinals ended a seven-game home losing streak, their longest since Aug. 2-15, 1983. It was their first home win since a 6-3 victory over San Francisco on June 5.

Garcia (6-6) allowed four hits. He struck out six and walked four.

Matt Garza (1-1) gave up seven runs, four earned, in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked four.

TIGERS 10, RAYS 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Rookie right-hander Michael Fulmer give up two hits in seven shutout innings and Victor Martinez hit three-run homers from both sides of the plate in Detroit's fourth straight win.

Fulmer (8-2) became the first Detroit pitcher since 1913 to give up one run or fewer in eight straight starts. He is 6-1 with a 0.53 ERA in those eight starts.

Drew Smyly (2-9) gave up six hits and four earned runs.

PIRATES 7, ATHLETICS 3

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Jody Mercer homered and had an RBI single and Pittsburgh rallied from three runs down to beat stumbling ace Sonny Gray (3-7).

Pirates starter Jeff Locke (8-5) also struggled early but retired the final nine batters he faced to win his third straight.

PHILLIES 4, ROYALS 3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jeremy Hellickson threw six sharp innings, Odubel Herrera hit a leadoff homer and Philadelphia got its fourth straight win.

Hellickson (6-6) allowed one run and five hits in six innings, striking out six. He was 0-9 in his previous 15 starts against AL opponents.

Royals starter Ian Kennedy (6-7) gave up three runs in five innings.

PADRES 7, YANKEES 6

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Wil Myers hit a two-run home run and 28-year-old rookie Ryan Schimpf hit his first career shot for San Diego.

Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

-- Dodgers are 14-2 in Clayton Kershaw's starts, 31-35 in all other games.

-- Joc Pederson is the 19th Dodger to go on the disabled list this season.

-- Bartolo Colon has batted 265 times in his career but has never walked, the most at-bats by any player ever without a walk.

-- Atlanta Braves have 41 HRs; no one else in NL has less than 66.

-- Cleveland's Carlos Carrasco is 15-7, 2.20 in his last 25 road starts.

-- Indians won in 19 innings Friday; Toronto used two position players as pitchers.

**********

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Random stuff on a summer day......

This is July 4 weekend, an American holiday; here are two examples of why this is a really great country:
13) Timofey Mosgov, who started 208 games in six NBA seasons, gets $65M from the Lakers for four years. Mosgov has a career scoring average of 6.9 ppg in his 369 NBA games. He will be 30 years old in two weeks. Now he is really, really rich, and he is not close to being really, really good.

12) Every July 1, from 2010-2035, Bobby Bonilla gets a check for $1,193,248.20 from the New York Mets, who dumped him before the 2000 season, instead of paying him $5.9M. So the Mets, whose owner is the head of MLB's Finance Committee, will pay Bonilla $29,831,205, instead of paying him $5.9M sixteen years ago. Geniuses.

Send your kid outside now, with a basketball or a bat. If he is going to be 7-feet tall, the basketball is probably a wiser choice. You never know what could happen.

11) Nationals' TV announcer FP Santangelo was explaining other night how moving from shortstop to centerfield isn't all that hard, much easier than moving to a corner outfield spot, where the fly balls slice or hook a lot more. Trea Turner, the Nationals' top prospect, is learning to play center in the minor leagues.

10) Dodgers' pitcher Kenta Maeda has an incentive-laden contract; he just bagged a $250K bonus for getting to the 90-inning mark. When he gets to the 100-inning mark, he cashes in on another $250K. Maeda has a balky elbow, which is why the Dodgers made his contract so heavily weighted with bonuses.

9) Saw something I never saw before: Thursday night, Braves led Miami 8-4 with two out in the ninth inning. Ump calls a close pitch a ball and the catcher (Tyler Flowers) explodes, yelling at the umpire and he gets tossed. With two outs in the last inning.

Field mikes pick up Flowers clearly yelling, "You're bleeping terrible!!!!" at umpire Larry Vanover before he goes to the dugout. Treemendous entertainment, then the TV guys apologize for airing the foul language. Hell, that was the best part.

8) I don't give a rat's ass about the Olympics. Not one bit; I guess I'll watch some of the basketball if I think games will be competitive, but otherwise, no thanks. Lot of the golfers are deciding not to go-- Jason Day is the latest to bail on his Olympic invite.

7) Phillies have a young OF prospect named Nick Williams who is rumored to be called up to the majors fairly soon. Read a lot of good things about Williams, so I made a trade for him and he is on my fantasy team, in a keeper league.

One small problem; Williams has been benched twice in the last couple of weeks for not hustling all the time, which will obviously delay his promotion to Philly. Ticklish situation; the guy is probably pouting because he wants to get called up, which delays the one thing he wants most. Phillies need more offense-- call the kid up!!!! If he does not hustle in front of the Philly fans, they'll let him know about it.

6) Congrats to Coastal Carolina on winning the College World Series; they're the first team since 1956 to win the CWS in their first appearance there.

5) So I'm watching Oceans Eleven the other night, had never seen it before. Excellent cast: Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, One scene, they're in a casino and just sitting at a video poker machine in a tuxedo is Clooney's character, waiting for the action to happen.

I go to Las Vegas several times a year, play my share of video poker and other games. I've met lot of interesting people, but never saw George Clooney playing video poker.

4) Terrance Ferguson is headed to Australia to play pro basketball for a year, three months after his high school graduation, then he'll enter the 2017 NBA Draft. Will not be easy being halfway around the world at age 18, playing pro ball against adults, but at least the language won't be a problem. .

3) ESPN had a very nice sendoff for Mike Tirico Thursday, which was his last day working for the network after 25 years. Big loss for ESPN letting him walk.

2) Want to feel old(er)? Mike Tyson turned 50 this week.

1) Roger Goodell made $32M last year, $1M per team. Pretty good job he has.

Hottest team: Astros (11-1 past 12)

The Houston Astros blanked the Chicago White Sox 5-0 in the series opener at Minute Maid Park Friday night, staying red hot. They have four in a row, 11 of their past 12 overall and six straight at home. They will square off against a White Sox team which has won just five times in their past 19 road games, although southpaw ace Chris Sale will be on the bump. The White Sox are also 3-13 in their past 16 road games against right-handed starting pitching. That's good news for an Astros club which has won 13 of their past 16 games at home, 26 of the past 35 games overall and 10 of their past 11 home games against a team with a losing road record. And while the ChiSox roll Sale out, the Astros have a pitcher who has been hotter than nearly anyone with Doug Fister toeing the slab.

Coldest team: Angels (1-10 past 11)

The Angels have been so-so on offense, as Albert Pujols, Mike Trout and company have hit well over the past week or two. However, it is the pitching that has let down the Halos, allowing six or more runs in five of their past seven outings. The Angels have won just seven of their past 26 games overall, and they're a dismal 2-14 in their past 16 games against American League East opponents. They're also 1-7 in their past eight games against right-handed starting pitching, and they're winless in their past four road outings. The Halos have also failed to win eight straight road games against a team with a winning home record.

Hottest pitcher: Doug Fister, Astros (8-4, 3.36 ERA)

Doug Fister has won seven of his past eight decisions dating back to April 25, and he wrapped up the month of June with a season-best 2.45 ERA in five starts. His quality start streak was snapped at five last time out in Kansas City, but he has been better at home lately. Overall, he is 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA in six starts at Minute Maid Park, and he has helpd opponents to a minuscule .212 batting average. The Astros are 10-1 in Fister's past 11 outings, and 5-0 in his past five at home. He has been a stopper, too, going 7-0 in Fister's past seven starts following a Houston loss in their previous outing.

Coldest pitcher: Clay Buchholz, Red Sox (3-8, 5.90 ERA)

Buchholz has fallen apart this season, losing five of his past six decisions, including each of his past two starts since returning from a banishment to the bullpen. Since the start of the 2013 season, Buchholz has been terrible at Fenway Park, going 13-18 with a 4.49 ERA in 43 appearances (41 starts). That includes a dismal 1-5 record with a 5.69 ERA with 11 homers served up in 49 innings and a .269 opponent batting average. The Red Sox are 3-12 in Buchholz's past 15 home starts against a team with a losing record, 8-21 in his past 29 starts overall and 0-4 in his past four overall.

Biggest UNDER run: Blue Jays (7-3 past 10)

The Blue Jays have managed a total of two runs in the first two games in this series, and that production is over 28 frames after Friday's marathon 19-inning loss. The Jays have managed two or fewer runs in six of their past 12 outings. The Jays have Marco Estrada on the hill Saturday, and the Jays are 8-0 in his past eight assignments against AL Central foes, and 17-4 in his past 21 starts against teams with a winning overal record. Toronto is also 16-5 in Estrada's past 21 home outings, and 22-8-1 in his past 31 starts overall.

Biggest OVER run: Rockies (8-2 past 10)

The Rockies have actually managed a total of three runs over their past two games, although the over is 8-2 in their past 10 outings overall. In fact, the Rockies have managed to plate nine or more runs in five of the past seven, and it's a good bet they'll score frequently against Scott Kazmir. The over is 4-1 in his past five starts overall, 4-1 in his past five against NL West foes and 5-1 in his past six against teams with an overall losing record.

Matchup to watch: Diamondbacks vs. Giants

The San Francisco Giants have been red hot lately, winning 12 of their past 15 games against a left-handed starter. They're also 9-2 in their past 11 road games vs. LHP. The Giants have turned up the intensity lately, going 23-8 in their past 31 road games and 35-16 in their past 51 against teams with a losing overall record. On the flip side, the Snakes have dropped six in a row, and they're just 2-5 in Patrick Corbin's past seven outings. They're also 0-7 in his past seven starts at home. San Francisco has won each of the past five meetings, and they're 39-19 in their past 58 trips to the desert.

Betcha didn’t know:
The Pirates and Athletics have a couple of unlikely heroes on the hill. Pittsburgh's Chad Kuhl made his first career start last Sunday, besting Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. Kuhl was also 6-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 14 outings for Triple-A Indianapolis, so winning has been the Delaware native's thing. Southpaw Rich Hill (groin) comes off the 15-day disabled list for the A's, and he looks to win his sixth straight start. He is also 3-1 with a 3.79 ERA in seven career outings against the Pirates.

Biggest public favorite: Nationals (-200) vs. Reds

Biggest public underdog: Orioles (+140) at Mariners

Biggest line move: Mariners (-120 to -140) vs. Orioles

LEADING OFF: Cleveland goes for 15, Fernandez doing it all
July 2, 2016

A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

CLEVELAND IN CANADA

A day after spoiling Toronto's Canada Day celebration with a 19-inning victory , the Indians try to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 15 games against the Blue Jays. Cleveland got a homer from Carlos Santana off infielder Darwin Barney in the 19th to win Friday, breaking a record set in 1942 and matched in 1951. ''I guess if you're going to set a record, you might as well do it the hard way,'' said winning pitcher Trevor Bauer, who was Saturday's scheduled starter but instead threw 83 pitches in extra innings Friday.

HITTING JOSE

Jose Fernandez (10-3, 2.28) takes the mound against Atlanta a night after his pinch-hit double in the 12th drove in the decisive runs in a 7-5 win. The Marlins ace has allowed one or fewer runs in eight of his past nine outings, putting together a 1.18 ERA and 7-1 record over that stretch. Oh, and he raised his average to .250 for the season with his double Friday night.

HILL RETURNS

A's left-hander Rich Hill (8-3, 2.25) is expected to come off the disabled list to start against Pittsburgh. He's been out since May 30 with a strained groin after emerging as one of the AL's best pitchers after signing a one-year, $6 million deal in the offseason. Hill should help stabilize Oakland's struggling rotation, and with the A's falling out of contention, he could wind up trade bait for a contender this month, too. Chad Kuhl (1-0, 5.40) makes his second big league start for Pittsburgh after beating Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in his debut.

DIAZ JUST FINE

Aledmys Diaz returned to the lineup Friday with a red - but no longer swollen - right eye and had two hits. Diaz, a Rookie of the Year contender as the Cardinals shortstop, had missed the previous three games after fouling a pitch off his face on Monday. He also had 11 assists on Friday, the most by a St. Louis rookie since Stu Martin had 11 at second base on June 6, 1936. The Cardinals send out Adam Wainwright (6-5, 5.04) to face Milwaukee's Jimmy Nelson (5-6, 3.60).

SALE A WINNER

Chris Sale (13-2, 2.79) tries to stretch his major league lead to 14 victories when the White Sox face the Astros. Sale has pitched at least seven innings in three straight starts and logged eight innings of two-run ball in a 5-2 win over Toronto his last time out. Houston counters with Doug Fister (8-4, 3.36).

TORONTO (AP) Cleveland's franchise-record 14-game winning streak was snapped by a 9-6 loss to Toronto on Saturday, with the Blue Jays scoring three runs in the eighth to overcome a cycle by Rajai Davis.

Toronto star Josh Donaldson hit a tying solo shot off Dan Otero (2-1) in the seventh and then made it 7-6 with an RBI single in the eighth. Michael Saunders added a two-run double, and Roberto Osuna pitched the ninth for his 16th save.

Edwin Encarnacion and Troy Tulowitzki also homered for Toronto, which lost 2-1 in 19 innings on Friday, matching the longest game in Blue Jays history. Jason Grilli (2-2) pitched one inning for the win.

Davis became the eighth player in Cleveland history to hit for the cycle. He led off the game with a homer, tripled home a run in the third, doubled and scored in the seventh and singled in the ninth.

ANGELS 21, RED SOX 2

BOSTON (AP) - C.J. Cron went 6 for 6 with two homers and five RBIs, Carlos Perez had five hits and drove in six and Los Angeles ended a four-game losing streak.

Albert Pujols hit his 575th career homer - a two-run shot - and had five RBIs for the Angels, who had lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Cron and Perez each homered during an 11-run seventh inning. They are the first set of teammates with at least five hits and five RBIs in the same game since Gene Moore and Buck Jordan for the Boston Braves in 1936, according to ESPN.

It's the sixth time the Angels reached 20 runs, the last coming against Kansas City on Aug. 25, 2004. The club record for runs is 24, set at Toronto on Aug. 25, 1979.

Hector Santiago (5-4) got the win, holding the majors' highest scoring team to one unearned run and four hits over six innings.

Clay Buchholz (3-9) gave up six runs - three earned - in 4 1/3 innings.

METS 4, CUBS 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Jake Arrieta lost a regular-season road start for the first time in 14 months when Neil Walker hit a two-run homer and Travis d'Arnaud blooped a two-run single that pushed the Mets to their third straight win over the Cubs.

Bartolo Colon (7-4) outpitched the NL Cy Young Award winner, who struggled with his control in a 35-pitch first inning, when he went to 3-2 counts on his first four batters.

After winning his first 12 decisions, Arrieta (12-3) lost for the third time in six starts, giving up four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Colon allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. Jeurys Familia worked the ninth for his major league-leading 28th save.

Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist homered for the Cubs.

DODGERS 6, ROCKIES 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Scott Kazmir pitched six scoreless innings, Trayce Thompson and Adrian Gonzalez drove in two runs each and Los Angeles got its eighth straight home victory.

Kazmir (7-3) extended his unbeaten streak to 10 starts by holding the Rockies to a single and two doubles. He struck out 10 without walking a batter.

Rockies starter Chad Bettis (6-6) lost for the first time in five starts, giving up four runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one.

PADRES 2, YANKEES 1

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Melvin Upton Jr. homered on the first pitch of the ninth to give San Diego a walk-off win.

It was the third game-ending homer of the year for Upton, who homered into the second balcony on the Western Metal Supply Co. Building in the left-field corner.

Andrew Miller (5-1) was starting his second inning for the Yankees.

Brad Hand (2-2) pitched the ninth for the win.

MARINERS 12, ORIOLES 6

SEATTLE (AP) - Mike Zunino homered twice in his first game of the season, Nelson Cruz and Seth Smith both hit three-run home runs and Seattle slugged past Baltimore.

Cruz staked Seattle to a 3-0 lead with his 21st homer of the season in the first inning off Baltimore starter Tyler Wilson (4-6) and Zunino extended it to 5-0 in the second on a two-run shot in his first at-bat of the season after being called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier this week.

James Paxton (2-3) was dominant for four innings but couldn't make it out of the sixth after allowing five base runners in the inning.

PIRATES 4, ATHLETICS 2

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - David Freese hit a go-ahead single in the top of the 10th inning, and Pittsburgh got its third straight win.

Erik Kratz led off the inning with a single against Daniel Coulombe (1-1), Jordy Mercer sacrificed him over and Freese singled to left. A's left fielder Coco Crisp threw out Freese at home on Adam Frazier's single moments later, and the play was upheld on an umpire review.

Juan Nicasio (6-6) struck out two in the ninth for the victory, then Mark Melancon allowed a pair of singles before finishing for his 23rd save.

TWINS 17, RANGERS 5

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Max Kepler homered twice and set a Twins rookie record by driving in seven runs.

Eduardo Nunez had four hits for the Twins, who scored at least three runs in four of the first five innings. Kepler's second home run of the day capped a six-run fifth inning and gave Minnesota a 17-4 lead.

Texas right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-1) recorded just two outs in his second start of the season. Ryan Rua and Robinson Chirinos homered for the AL-leading Rangers, who had won five of seven.

Tyler Duffey (4-6) was the beneficiary of the outburst from one of the majors' weakest lineups, pitching six innings for his second straight win.

BRAVES 9, MARLINS 1

ATLANTA (AP) - Freddie Freeman homered to help Atlanta hand Marlins ace Jose Fernandez one of the worst starts of his career.

Fernandez (10-4) drove in the decisive runs as a pinch hitter in Miami's 7-5 12-inning win over Atlanta on Friday night, but allowed a career-high nine runs, six earned, and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings on Saturday.

The six earned runs matched Fernandez's career high and equaled the six he allowed in five starts in June, when he had a 1.67 ERA.

Atlanta's Lucas Harrell (1-0) pitched six innings of one-run ball in his first start in the majors in two years. Freeman had three hits and Jace Peterson also homered.

TIGERS 3, RAYS 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Justin Verlander pitched seven solid innings, and Detroit earned its fifth consecutive win.

Verlander (8-6) allowed two runs, one earned, and four hits while improving to 5-2 in eight starts at Tropicana Field.

The Tigers look to complete a four-game sweep Sunday against the reeling Rays, who lost for the 15th time in 17 games.

Tampa Bay rookie Blake Snell (1-3) gave up three runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings in his fifth start.

Justin Wilson pitched the eighth before Francisco Rodriguez got three outs for his 23rd save.

CARDINALS 3, BREWERS 0

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings and Kolten Wong had a two-run triple, leading St. Louis to the win.

The Cardinals turned four double plays, including the fourth, fifth and sixth. Jonathan Broxton got three outs and Seung Hwan Oh, a longtime closer in Japan and Korea, finished the seven-hitter for his first career save.

St. Louis improved to 6-2 against Milwaukee and goes for a three-game series sweep on Sunday.

Milwaukee is 13-25 on the road and has lost 27 of the last 40 against the Cardinals.

Wainwright (7-5) allowed seven hits, struck out five and walked two.

Jimmy Nelson (5-7) gave up three runs, two earned, and seven hits in six innings.

WHITE SOX 7, ASTROS 6

HOUSTON (AP) - Chris Sale pitched seven-plus innings to become the majors' first 14-game winner, helping the White Sox to the victory on the road.

Sale (14-2) settled down after a slow start, allowing five runs, four earned, and six hits. David Robertson yielded A.J. Reed's first career homer in the ninth before finishing for his 22nd save.

Dioner Navarro drove in a season-high four runs for Chicago, which has won three of four. J.B. Shuck hit a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI triple in Chicago's two-run eighth inning.

Houston starter Doug Fister (8-4) allowed nine hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings for his second straight loss. He walked five and struck out three.

ROYALS 6, PHILLIES 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Kendrys Morales homered twice and drove in four runs, powering Kansas City to the win.

Morales extended his hitting streak to eight consecutive games with a second-inning homer. He is batting .565 with seven homers and 21 RBIs in his last 13 games.

Kansas City's Danny Duffy (4-1) allowed two runs and seven hits in a career-high 8 2/3 innings. The left-hander's previous best was eight innings, which he tied in Monday's win over St. Louis.

Cesar Hernandez and Maikel Franco each had two hits for Philadelphia, which had won four in a row. Aaron Nola (5-8) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings.

DIAMONDBACKS 6, GIANTS 5

PHOENIX (AP) - Welington Castillo's three-run homer off Hunter Strickland (3-1) in the eighth inning rallied Arizona to end a six-game losing streak.

Jake Barrett (1-0) earned his first major league win in relief and Brad Ziegler got his 17th save of the season.

The Diamondbacks avoided their longest losing streak of the season.

REDS 9, NATIONALS 4

WASHINGTON (AP) - Tucker Barnhart singled home the tiebreaking run in the 10th inning and Cincinnati piled on to end a five-game skid.

Josh Smith (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first career win.

Eugenio Saurez and Brandon Phillips opened the 10th with singles off Sammy Solis (1-3) and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman was unable to field Billy Hamilton's sacrifice attempt, loading the bases.

Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Friday was a great day to be an NBA player (or their agent):

-- Timofey Mosgov getting $65M for four years is nonsense; guy played 76:00 total in 21 playoff games for Cleveland this spring.

-- Brooklyn giving Jeremy Lin $36M for three years makes some sense.

-- Joakim Noah is a good fit for the triangle offense; Derrick Rose is not.

-- Pelicans gave Solomon Hill $12M a year; guy started three games for Indiana last season. He played a lot for the Pacers the year before, but $12M a year?

-- Milwaukee gave Matthew Dellavedova $38.5M for four years.

-- Memphis made Mike Conley the highest-paid player in NBA history. Problem is, he's never even made one All-Star Game.

**********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here......

13) I'm a big fan of the instant replay system in baseball, think it has made the game a lot better, but the Angels-Red Sox game Friday night was instant replay at its worst.

Angels are down 5-4 in ninth inning; Mike Trout is tying run on first with two out. . Daniel Nava hits a ball down the rightfield line at Fenway- it bounces, hits the top of the short wall, keeps going until a fan reaches out and grabs the ball. Call on the field is a ground rule double, but even the Red Sox TV guys said Trout should score.

Angels challenge the play but replay says Trout should stay at third. Who is making this call? Maybe they should show which umpires are deciding what in the replay center in Manhattan, because whoever made that decision screwed the Angels bigtime.

12) In 2013-14, NBA salary cap was $58.68M; it went up to $63.07, then $70M his past year, $94M next year and $107M in 2017-18, so the NBA is very healthy.

This year's salary floor is $85M; teams have to spend that much on salary, which is part of why guys who aren't stars are raking in silly money.

11) I remember seeing OJ Mayo play in an AAU tournament in Florida in 2006; he played on D-I Greyhounds, who also had Bill Walker- they played the 10pm game in The Milkhouse most nights-- they were the best team, and they knew it.

Ten years later, Mayo has banked $46M in salary but is now suspended by the NBA for two years- he'll be turning 31 next time he is eligible to be an NBA player, just as salaries are really taking off bigtime now. It can be difficult to handle prosperity.

10) New Orleans Saints wanted to make a waiver claim on QB Connor Shaw this week, but instead of e-mailing the NFL, they mistakenly sent their plan to every other team in the league and the Chicago Bears picked Shaw up instead.

9) White Sox got shut out Friday nite, but their TV guys praised home plate ump Jordan Baker, a young umpire who is 6-foot-8. When Hawk Harrelson praises an umpire after a White Sox loss, you know the ump did a really good job.

8) Somehow Tom Brady was involved in the Celtics' pitch to lure Kevin Durant to Boston as a free agent. Durant grew up in Maryland but isn't a Ravens' fan?

7) Captain Obvious checks in with this: In movies and on TV shows, the good guys are much better shooters than the bad guys. Bad guys should practice more- never see a criminal at a gun range practicing.

6) Arizona Cardinals are 20-6-1 vs spread under Bruce Arians in games where the spread was 4 or less points, by far best in NFL.

Indianapolis Colts are 23-13-1 under Chuck Pagano in games with a spread of 4 or less points, but if you remember, Pagano was ill during his first year as coach- the interim coach? Bruce Arians. Indy was 6-2-1 vs spread that season in low-spread games.

5) There is a tournament at World Series of Poker this weekend-- it costs $50,000 to enter, five times what the Main Event costs. Daniel Negreanu says that for most of the top players, the Players tourney is most fun/prestigious event of the WSOP.

4) Seven of the top nine international baseball prospects that were eligible for the draft this weekend were listed as shortstops, including all of the top five.

3) As I type this, Ryan Anderson just got $80M for four years from Houston; he scored 15.4 ppg the last two years in 29 mpg, despite starting only 12 of 127 games. He is a career 37.7% shooter outside the arc. Shooting is marketable.

Al Horford gets $113M for four years from the Celtics.

2) Blue Jays 9, Indians 6-- Congrats to Cleveland on a 14-game winning streak.

1) Pinnacle Sports posted odds on the Nathan's hot dog eating contest that is held every July 4 on Coney Island in Brooklyn.:

Over 65.5 hot dogs eaten by winner: -$145. Under 65.5: +119
