Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud......
13) Not sure how accurate ESPN's recruiting rankings are, but Alabama had the nation's best signing class for third year in a row, according to those ESPN ratings- they signed 27 kids, including five of nation's top 15.
12) Georgia had the #9 recruiting class in America, but they had the #7 class in the SEC; only two non-SEC schools ahead of them were defemding national champ Florida State and also Ohio State.
11) Tennessee Volunteers filled a lot of holes (they hope) by bringing in a huge haul of 33 kids-- considering you can have 85 kids on scholarship and lot of freshmen redshirt, lot of true freshmen will play for the Vols next fall.
10) Matt Cassel opted out of his $3.7M contract for next year with the Vikings, and is a free agent. Must figure there are enough teams that need a QB that he'll make more than $3.7M somewhere else next year.
9) West Virginia 91, Oklahoma 86 ot-- Sooners had a 20-hour odyssey to get to Morgantown, because of weather issues- they never got to the arena until less than 90 minutes before gametime, then rallied back from a 14-point second half deficit to force overtime.
Look at a map; why are these teams in the same league?
8) When the Seahawks scored in the first minute of both halves Sunday, it was only the second time since 1970 that had happened in the NFL- thats over 10,000 games. Pretty amazing fact there.
7) Washington Wizards were over .500 for the first tine since October 31, 2009, before losing to the Spurs in two OTs-- having a healthy John Wall makes a huge difference. So does being in the weak Eastern Conference.
6) An 18-year old Australian PG named Dante Exum is going to enter the NBA Draft next summer; seems odd than an Australian 18-year old can do that, but an American kid can't. Really think kids should be able to go to the NBA right from high school, but if they go to college, then they would have to stay there for at least two years.
Would improve the college game and the NBA; having these one-and-done kids in college is a joke.
5) Richmond Spiders lost leading scorer Cedrick Lindsey with injuries to both knees; he played 37 minutes in Spiders' loss to VCU Saturday, must have gotten hurt in practice this week.
4) Pitt 59, Miami 55 ot-- Hurricanes were just 14-25 on the foul line as Pitt escape south Florida with a win and snap their two-game losing skid.
3) Delaware 67, Charleston 64-- Cougars were up 20 with 8:50 left, still lost- they scored three points in last 5:23. Blue Hens are 10-0 in the CAA; Davon Usher scored 42 points playing all 40:00- the Delaware subs played a total of only 13:00, making the late comeback even more impressive.
2) Former Steeler offensive lineman Alan Faneca lost around 100 pounds since retiring as a player and also finished his first marathon recently, pretty cool story. Can't even imagine what running 26 miles is like.
1) Purdue 77, Minnesota 74 3ot-- Boilers survived ridiculously bad (9-23) foul shooting to snap 4-game skid, while Gophers lost third game in a row.
