back and refreshed from a vacation away from the tracks. here's the business today; let's make closing week a profitable one.
r2: himalayan. have always liked this diminutive filly every since her debut win at 5/1 for bob marshall at hollywood park last year. she's been freshened for a couple months by ted west, who is having a great del mar meet. the favorites in here ll have questions: honest answer is coming off a layoff with average works, square dance isn't getting any better at age 5, devious impact hasn't run fast enough on turf to win this and ask not is coming back off layoff after bouncing to the moon at this level in june. the one that frightens is annie T for morey. although in for a tag, annie has been training forwardly and should get a great stalking trip. so too, should himalayan as pedroza should sit behind ask not, honest answer and devious impact and make her move between horses on the turn.
r3: saint buddy. this one will likely get bet down from his 3/1 morning line aws i just don't think johhny red kerr will take all that much action despite the leading rider and the 1.4M price tag. 'buddy pressed a strong pace against a grizzly gropu of special weights and understandably faded. tyler mount loses the blinks and should go much much better in his second start. i very rarely will back a horse running long on dirt in his debut, so i will pass on kerr and make buddy my pick 6 singleton.
r7: imawilly. willing to give patrick a shot to steal this one for machowsky, first off the claim. 'willy ran poorly first time down here for lage, and machowsky plunked down 16k for him. he's never been turf and never been route, but that's ok, it means the price will be right. with walter willy on top, he should be fine on the weeds and while there's other speed in the lineup, with his sprinter's foundation, he should be loose on the lead. if pval can get him to relax during the middle quarters of the race, he may just wire 'em
r8: clever play. got to imagine the 8/1 morning line is a little bit hihg as this one is dropping out special weights, albeit off a year's layoff. no matter, garcia is having a very strong meet and should have this one ready first time back. while he may go better in a few weeks at fairplex, i give him a good shot at firing first time back.
good luck.
