CLEVELAND (Dec. 17, 2004) -- The
Cleveland Browns offense was pretty awful last weekend, just not quite as awful as everyone thought.
Cleveland was credited with gaining just 17 yards in its
37-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 12, which would have been the fifth-lowest total in NFL history.
But the Browns were awarded an additional 9 yards when Elias Sports Bureau made a scoring change Dec. 16. Elias changed what was officially registered as a 9-yard sack to an aborted play -- improving Cleveland's offensive total to 26 net yards.
It's still the worst total in franchise history but now ranks as the seventh worst in league history.
