Don't get caught up on the brand names here. If you do, there is no way you can look past the golden helmets and Notre Dame. Predictably, the money is starting to pour in on the Fightin' Irish.

However, I tend to look at the actual results from the field and those point to the other sideline.

Notre Dame really stunk down the stretch, losing four of their last five including a 38-3 rout to Southern Cal to end the season.

On the other hand, Hawaii looked sharp to close out the year, winning three of their last four. They would have run the table had Cincinnati not staged a fourth quarter comeback to beat them 29-24 in their last regular season game.

And history is on the side of the Warriors.

By know, everyone knows that Notre Dame hasn't won a bowl game since January of 1994. Yes, 14 years ago.

As you'll note in Hawaii's complete bowl results below, the Warriors have had recent bowl success - especially when playing at home.

Jan. 1, 2008 Sugar Bowl-Georgia 41, Hawaii 10
Dec. 24, 2006 Hawaii Bowl-Hawaii 41, Arizona State 24
Dec. 25, 2004 Hawaii Bowl-Hawaii 59, UAB 40
Dec. 25, 2003 Hawaii Bowl-Hawaii 54, Houston 48, 3OT
Dec. 25, 2002 Hawaii Bowl-Tulane 36, Hawaii 28
Dec. 25, 1999 Oahu Bowl-Hawaii 23, Oregon State 17
Dec. 30, 1992 Holiday Bowl-Hawaii 27, Illinois 17
Dec. 25, 1989 Aloha Bowl-Michigan State 33, Hawaii 13

NORTHCOAST POWER PLAYS 0-1

HAWAII BOWL

ND HC Weis got the vote of confi dence and here’s where it starts paying off as Weis needs a win here. PP calls for ND to win by 6 (line Hawaii -1’). The Irish have lost 9 bowls in a row and failed to cover the L/7, but come in here as a dog to a WAC team and the talent difference should be apparent.

Not sure of numbers, but I think Lang's done well this season. Like a lot of cappers, he missed TCU last night, but I still think TCU was the better bet. That he is on Hawaii tonite is giving me reason to not load up on ND.
