There are several coaches who have a lot more power on personnel then people think.

Several teams with full time gms are not much more then contract negotiators and bean counters.

The Saints are a good example.

Sean Payton has full 100% say so on every personnel move on the team but GM is not in his title.
Benson gave Payton 100% control since day 1.

And for the most part he has done a great job.

He is credited with the greatest free agent signing in NFL history.

Kind of hard to top that but I don't think anyone can find a better free agent signing in NFL history then Drew Brees. 6 years 60 million.

During that 6 years There was a Super Bowl title. 2 NFC championship games. 3 5000+ yard passing seasons.

More passing yards, completions, TDs then any other qb in NFL history in a 6 year span.

Foles and draft choices to Tampa for the number one pick.....Kelly loves the Oregon QB....

Spurrier loved Wuerffel and all of his Florida players when he went to the Redskins, just thought that he could bring the same system to the NFL and score 50 per game. He found out the hard way that good college players/systems often translate into pink slips at the next level.

don't think to many outside of Spurrier thought Wuerffel was the answer

I hear ya. I like Mariota...just think Winston will be a great nfl qb.

Winston has thrown more int. in single games than Mariota has thrown all season. Twice in Rose Bowl game He didn't notice the clock was down to 0. Not many QB in the NFL that throw numerous int. and lose track of the clock. I just feel He has little chance of adjusting to the NFL.

mariota throws fucking swing passes 90% of the time, when he goes downfield he is not accurate

Let's me understand this.... Marcus has thrown for well over 10,000 yards, 104 TD's and only had 13 INT. in his 3 years but He's inaccurate ? Show me some other college QB that have EVER had these kind of stats ! I've been around longer than almost anyone on this site and I can't recall a single QB that has ever been this accurate with as few INT. Let's hear about all those that had 104 TD's with only 13 INT ?

You all are probably right, no room in the NFL for a QB with good size, a great arm, a very quick release, and one that makes great decisions.... no way that QB could adapt to the NFL..

If he is not accurate and can't throw in tight windows, he is not an NFL quarterback. This stuff is not that hard. You are his biggest fan and gave 4 positive comments about him but never mentioned accuracy. I have good size, a great arm, and a quick release. Decision making is questionable at best. I guess you should take me somewhere in the 3rd round if he is going #1 overall.

I remember that.....I think he was quoted when he was hired by the Skins "Give me Danny Wuerfel and you can have everyone else". I loved Spurrier at Florida though. I think he also brought in Shane Matthews who I think at the time was long gone from the NFL. As in maybe 10 years removed from the NFL as a back up qb.

If they had, can't see how they could have drafted him....

actually rg3 is pretty impressive in interview. He was raised in a military 2 parent home. Made good grades and is well spoken
