Champions League Quarterfinals
Quarterfinal action in the Soccer Betting Champions League gets underway on Tuesday and Wednesday with the first legs as Manchester United hosts FC Porto, Villarreal hosts Arsenal, Chelsea is at Liverpool and Bayern Munich visits Barcelona.
Chelsea and Liverpool have met every year for the past four years in the Champions League and they are about as even as you can get. Each side has won twice and there have been four draws. "The players are known by the managers, the players know each other very well, the managers know how they play, so it's very, very tight," Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink said, "I'm looking forward to this battle, but in the end we can plan what we want - the players, they have to execute it and it always depends on those little details in the execution." Liverpool normally would be totally focused on the Soccer Betting Champions League but this season they are also in a battle for the Premier League title as they trail Manchester United by just a single point for the league lead. Liverpool has gotten excellent play of late out of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. "This is probably the worst time to be facing Gerrard," said Chelsea captain John Terry, "He's one of the best players in the world, that's for sure. He's in great form at the minute. I'm sort of dreading going there to play him because he is different class."
Quarterfinal play begins on Tuesday as Manchester United faces Porto. "Because of the competitive nature of our Premier League I think an English team will win the Champions League again this year and it could be another all-English final." Manager Alex Ferguson said. United is trying to do two things that have never been done. A European club has never defended its title (United won the Champions League last year) and no team has ever won five trophies in a season. United will be trying to get past a Porto team that has some talent. "They are a good team with lots of attacking power," United striker Carlos Tevez said. "They are going through a very good period at the moment. It won't be easy to beat them, but we have confidence in ourselves. We are dreaming of returning to the final and winning the Champions League once again."
