unless he moved, he lives in Boca Raton Florida. He used to come into a restaurant I worked at. That was about 6 years ago.

He's very tall and thin and likes turkey clubs. Always alone, except once with a pretty young lady. I suspect strongly it was his daughter.
( remember from the movie he had a daughter).

We would ask him who he liked in the monday night game and his pick would always be sharp, win or lose.

Wil- Everytime I eat at that Tony Romas on West Sahara, I can just picture Lefty's car blowing up in the parking lot. From talking to some of the old timers that were around when Lefty was in his betting prime, they told me he was a pretty sharp guy. Was he a good horse player as well? I believe after he left Las Vegas, he moved to Miami and owns and operates a nightclub there.

suetoneous- Do yourself a favor and order a copy of The Gambler so you can watch it whenever you want. I think it's by far the best gambling movie ever made.

I only heard he was living in the San Diego area, its possible he has homes in both Cal. and Fla. As far as horses go, I don't believe he paid a lot of attention to picking winning horses. He was a sports guy, and like you said very sharp in his day. His name has been affiliated with several offshore books in the last few years. I also believe he was and maybe still is selling picks. I know the Tony Roma's you are talking about, just east of the strip on Sahara.. Funny thing about the movie, I thought DiNiro was mis-cast physically. He looked nothing like Lefty, but as an actor he pulled off the role. Sharon Stone, was supposed to be a perfect cast for Lefty's ex, now deceased, wife.

Guys, last night I watched Casino for the first time in a while while I was taking a break ... this movie is hands-down the best Vegas movie I have ever seen. I love this film, I love the atmosphere of it -- a shame Vegas isn't like that anymore.

I watched Casino again the other night also. I was reminded of my first ever trip to Vegas in the early 70's. The first casino I walked into was the Stardust, this was when Lefty was in his heyday, the joint was packed especially the sports/race book area. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I moved to Vegas soon after and always liked the Dust up until the 80's at least. Hanging around the Strip back then was very different than it is today. That Vegas is gone forever it seems.

I saw it last night too, first time in a while, what a good flick, a little slow in parts, but overall its a classic.

I can still remember seeing it in the theatres right before Thanksgiving in 1995, first showing that day!

I also remember seeing Anthony The Ant (Nicky Santoro in the movie) once in a while in one of his small restaurants. He was always sitting together with a few of his crew wispering to each other at a corner table. I can't remember the name of the place, but it was on Maryland at Flamingo near the Pioneer bank.

_The Gambler (1974)_

I just finished watching it. This movie is jacked up. Especially the ending.
