Carolina came up short in their bid to close out this best-of-seven series on Tuesday as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the plucky Islanders. But they can still put this series to bed with just one more win and I say they will do it on Friday night.
It is important to note that although they lost, they did outshoot the Isles, 36-22, and had it not been for several careless mistakes and a bit of puck luck for New York, this series would be over. The Canes are the more talented team but that doesn’t always win games in the postseason.
Nevertheless, the last time these teams battled at the UBS Arena the Canes came away with a 5-2 win as +104 road dogs. I have a tough time seeing my way clear to an Islanders victory in this spot as the Hurricanes are simply too tough defensively to lose another match to a team that has a dearth of goalscorers.
