A great article at Wired about how online reselling giant Overstock.com has been officially designated the largest single private employer in Afghanistan. Overstock's Worldstock division, which sells handmade goods, art and craftwork from around the world employs Afghanis at nearly ten times the average wage rate for government employees in Afghanistan, one of the poster children for everything bad about statism.

Also worth mentioning is Alpaca Pete's, a company which provides one of the only sources of employment to the residents of Amantani, Peru.

Great wheel turns every day -- technological advancements, financial systems development, commercial enterprise exploration from due diligence to corporate mergers, this great and wonderful thing that is capitalism continues to make the world better on a daily basis, so much so that in some places of the world the standard of living has advanced to the point where people have the leisure to sit around and bitch about the evils of capitalism on Internet fora day in and day out.

What a wonderful world. I mean that. For all of the ills extant in modern society, what a truly marvelous time to be alive this is.
