I agree fully, I understand it may not be the same hotel type quality on freemont street but I'd much rather spend time down there, less lost time jumping properties, decent for line shopping, lots of food varieties. If your hotel has no pool downtown many are not aware you can go to the Grand hotel and they charge $5 during the week and $10 on weekends to enter the pool area for the whole day, it's a decent option where it is much quieter than the GNugget where it is real busy and often won't let you in without a room key.
I remember the old Lady Luck place.
Good to know about the pool access there, I used to sneak my way into the GN pool pretty easily as a local or tourist staying nearby.
I like a busy pool with lots of women around, GN must still be the best pool downtown.
The last few times I stayed there, I was pleased with the Fremont. Golden Gate is just horrible for rooms, good for a quick bite to eat.
I'll consider Grand hotel if I ever take another trip there, but would prefer to be right on Fremont, like that corner with Fremont, 4 queens ( always sounded like a gay bar to me ! ), GN, Horshoe.
Fishhead and others right, this is where it's at. Strip casinos are too far apart
The reason I no longer go to Vegas is that BJ rules have become so unfriendly that I can't win any money even being a pretty good card counter.
I wouldn't even see much reason to bet on much of anything offered there now !
I'm kinda Vegased out after living there about 6 years at the end of the good BJ era, 1989-1996.
I would now enjoy the pool, MGM comes to mind, people watch, try to pick up women since no longer married, eat as many crab legs as humanly possible, and drink copious amounts of alcohol, 3-6 days of that, and move on
I'm fine a decent 3 star room, have had 2 floor suites twice the SF of my present home.
I like the pool stuff at a MGM resort, but actually would prefer a GN room.
I'm not there to sit in the suite and watch TV, just give me working AC, a decent bed, clean towels, and I'm good !
