WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) said Wednesday there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 — disputing an impression that critics say the administration tried to foster to justify the war against Iraq (news - web sites).

"There's no question that Saddam Hussein had al-Qaida ties," the president said. But he also said, "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with September the 11th."

The president's comment was the administration's firmest assertion that there is no proven link between Saddam and Sept. 11. It came after Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) on Sunday clouded the issue by saying, "It's not surprising people make that connection" between Saddam and the attacks.

Cheney, on NBC's "Meet the Press," also repeated an allegation — doubted by many in the intelligence community — that Mohamed Atta, the lead Sept. 11 attacker, met with a senior Iraqi intelligence official in Prague five months before Sept. 11.

"We've never been able to develop any more of that yet, either in terms of confirming it or discrediting it," Cheney said Sunday. However, other U.S. authorities have said information gathered on Atta's movement show he was on the U.S. East Coast when that meeting supposedly took place.

Critics of the Bush administration have pointed to statements like Cheney's as evidence that the administration was exaggerating al-Qaida's prewar links with Saddam to help justify the U.S.-led war against Iraq.

A recent poll indicated that nearly 70 percent of Americans believed the Iraqi leader probably was personally involved. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday, "I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that."

The administration has argued that Saddam's government had close links to al-Qaida, the terrorist network led by Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) that masterminded the Sept. 11 attacks.

On Sunday, for example, Cheney said that success in stabilizing and democratizing Iraq would strike a major blow at the "the geographic base of the terrorists who have had us under assault for many years, but most especially on 9-11."

Bush himself has taken to referring to Iraq as the central front in the war against terror.

NO TIES GEORGE DUBYA? WHY DIDN'T YOU SAID THAT BEFORE THE WAR !!!

The reason why Bush did not say it before the war is easy.
All 24 ARAB countries work as a whole. You have to start with one dictator after the other.

The ARAB world or people will OWN OUR world, maybe not in our lifetime. But it will happen.

The scheme of ALL ARABS and PALESTINIANS is bring down us or the United States to their level. We (USA) want to move forward into technology, building, education, space, etc. But these dictators of these pretty Arab countries are preaching everyday of the brainwashing to hate AMERICANS. They will not be happy until we have the SAME AS THEM---NOTHING!But if we play OUR cards right, the USA needs to kill all the Arabs and get the land and turn the world into a better place.
Until then innocent people anywhere here or abroad from the U.S. are in danger until we contain ALL 24 ARAB countries!

Captain 5....I wouldn't worry about the Arab countries taking over the world. The good news is that they hate each other.

families are old friends, have done business together for years. You are kidding yourself if you think nationalism has anything going for it. The two forces at play are big money and fanatical religion, and big money always calls the shots. The Arab nations are no more banded together in some fantasized "evil cabal" than any other set of allies or potential allies.

My point is that BUSH is a dam* liar and he needs to be IMPEACHED.
And the reason why "some arabs" hate America is because we get in there business and we keep supporting Israel .
And you want to kill every ARAB captain #5 ? did I hear you right? WOW we got some bigots in here, plus there's many christian Arabs you want to kill them as well?

Let's not forget that the cradle of civilization is the middle east. It is where we all came from and eventually spread out to other parts of the world.......at the end of the day, we all come from the same family.

Yankee, I am entitled to how I feel.Maybe before 9/11 I did not feel that way about my Islamic or Arab brothers. But guess what I feel that way now! I lost 4 friends because of these backwards cowards that want to bring all of us down beacuse they have nothing!
I have no respect or feeling for any arab person here in the USA or in 1 of their 24 backwards countries.

The biggest stupidity thing is the black sheep or suiciders called Palistinians. What do they do for anybody? There are 24 backwards arab countries that could take these low lifes in to give them a better life.BUT NOBODY wants them!America doesn't want them and brothers don't NEED them.

The Palistinian/Israel thing is just a excuse for the Arab countries to stir things up.If Israel killed all the Palistinians would there be peace? Maybe the Saudi Arabians can take the Palistinians in like they take in all the Arab terriosts.
Who really cares about christian arabs? Not us.They are still arabs, think like arabs, kill like arabs and bleed like arabs.

Bigots rule the world don't they Yankee? What is Sadam or any other dictator running a arab country today? A leader or a killer?

In case you didn't know Lebanon is 40% christian, did you know they had a civil war with muslims in Lebanon? let be guess NO.
So you want all arabs killed? that's fine I also want all racist low lifes and terrorists killed but we can't have everything we want can we?
One thing is to say you want all Terrorist destroyed and I agree, but we you want a whole race of people killed that's a whole different story.
