The St. Louis Rams have made a commitment to their starting quarterback, and it's not Kurt Warner.
SportsLine.com has learned that the Rams and Marc Bulger agreed Tuesday to a four-year, $17.25 million contract that includes a $9 million signing bonus. The terms were agreed to shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, and pretty much assure the departure of Warner, the former Rams starter and two-time NFL most valuable player.
Bulger, who turned 27 on April 5, has been a big success in 1 1/2 seasons as a starter with the Rams. He won his first six starts in 2002 and led the team to a 12-4 record and an NFC West championship last year, then was the MVP in the Pro Bowl.
Warner, who turns 33 on June 22, was the NFL MVP in 1999 and 2001, leading the team to the Super Bowl each year. But he had just three touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in an injury-plagued 2002 and lost his job after fumbling six times while sustaining a concussion in the opener last year.
It has been widely reported that Warner will be released after June 1.
