John Teeter, an out-of-work handy man, picked up some
breakfast at the Destin Subway on Wednesday and accidentally left his wallet with his ID, credit cards and $2,000 in cash — money he had planned to spend on a utility trailer — on the counter, reports the
Northwest Florida Daily News.
About 12 minutes later, a woman bought breakfast, picked up his wallet from the counter and left.
Goodbye, wallet.
Well, not exactly.
Teeter decided to fight back.
He contacted local media and created his own website showing video of the girl taking the wallet. Subway’s manager had provided Teeter with a copy of the video surveillance of the crime, according to the Daily News.
Finally, Teeter said, the girl contacted him Friday and apologized. The two met at Sandestin and the girl returned the money. She had tossed his wallet, reports the Daily News.
Teeter said he would not press charges against her.
“I will definitely be a Subway customer for a while,” Teeter told the Daily News.
