A's
After pounding the Red Sox last night 9-0, the A's look to continue their winning ways tonight. They will get it. First of all, no Ortiz and Ramirez in the lineup. No Ortiz or Nixon. No Mirabelli to catch either. Now you have a 3rd string catcher handling this already fragile pitching staff. You are getting fantastic value here based on Josh Beckett's reputation and his great start last time out at Anaheim against the Angels. He came out after his finger flared up again. Throw that start out the window. I want you to look at his two prior start to that one. Yankees crushed him in Boston for 9 runs in 6 innings and the Tigers crushed him for 5 runs in 6 innings as well. What do the A's have in common with the Yankees and Tigers? They are, in my opinion, 3 of the 4 teams we are going to see in the playoffs. Beckett may be able to beat the Angels, a team going nowhere in October, but he can't beat the leaders. Furthermore, in his two starts versus the A's this year, 10 runs in 10 innings. Saarloos has found his rythmn. He has gone 6 innings in his last 2 starts at home to the Mariners and at Kansas City. He won both allowing just 2 earned. You dig just a little deeper and you will see 1-0 his last 3 starts against the Red Sox allowing just 6 earned in 18 innings. This is pretty much a Triple AAA team he will be facing and the A's rough up another Red Sox starter. A's are 40 Dime winner #6 in a row tonight.
Angels
I was hurt in Weaver's last start by the 3rd base coach of the Angels. You remember what the moron did. Bottom of 7th, no outs, down 2-0, Angels get a 2nd and 3rd situation. They get the base hit to make it 2-1 and should have 1st and 3rd with no outs. But no, this bozo sends a slow runner in Rivera, who promptly gets thrown out and so much for that rally. Well, I will back the Angels here and hope this idiot learned his lesson. Weaver is 6-0 on the road, he is 2-0 versus the Mariners, allowing just 1 run over 14 innings. Pretty solid. Jarod Washburn is 7-12 on the year including 5-5 at home with an era pushing 4. The big question here is can the Angels score 4 runs in this game tonight. I believe they can and by doing that, it will get Weaver the win. He shuts down the M's again for the 3rd straight start and the Angels get a much needed win. Besides, even if the M's won last night, they are still 1-20 their last 21 versus the AL West. Enough said. Angels are the play
