2* Mississippi State Bulldogs +14 -110

State travels to Auburn, programs going in opposite directions. Miss State got smart and hired Urban Meyer's bed buddy and fellow creator of the spread option - Dan Mullen - to inject some life in their program. Mullen has succesfully installed his spread so far, as their boxscore after game 1 looks eerily similar to UF stats. Everyone will say "Ohhh but they beat Jackson State."

But when was the last time Miss State beat ANYBODY that soundly? It was their biggest margin of victory in at least 6 years.

Meanwhile Auburn took a 13-10 game into halftime vs. Louisiana Tech and 2 4th Q TDs make the game seem like more of a butt whooping than what really happened.

These teams played a 3-2 ball game last year, and in a huge game forthe Bulldogs and Dan Mullen, he will break out all of the stops in his SEC West Opener and get his team beleiving.

Auburn is 3-12 ATS last 15 games as a favorite of 10.5 or higher.

Auburn 26
Miss State 23

Matt Leinart-----Auburn, 23-0 first start with USC, he wasn't a freshman, but he was a rookie, how is he going to replace Carson Palmer??? just fine
John David Booty---Arkansas, 50-14, his first start with USC how is he going to replace Leinart???? not a freshman, but he was a rookie??just fine
Barkley----Ohio State, how is he going to replace Sanchez??
just fine
and yes, Southern California will beat Ohio State in so-called Big 10 Football which is fine, USC will run it down their throat almost AT WILL and this will only set up play-action and make Barkely's job alot easier,
The Navy game is irrelevant to me. Whether the Buckeyes won it big or small I see a big edge with the offensive line for the Trojans. The good news is if USC wins by 7 then I win and you push. USC is 1-4 as Road Favorite?? This was conference play and they were laying double-digits? How about USC is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 non-conference road games and 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four road games laying single digits? Or USC is a ridiculous 7-0 SU and ATS against the Big 10 with an average line of -6.4 and winning by an average of 21.6 points? These are just numbers that show Pete Carroll is a great in big games out-of-conference which most people already know. The offensive line is the big edge. I expect Gable, McKnight, Johnson, and others to have big games. The biggest mistake some people make is that they think all West Coast teams are finesse and this happens in basketball too. Southern Cal will show them some physical football Saturday night. BOL to you. Should be a good game for a little bit.

1. Big difference between QBs who have been in the system for a year, and are groomed, and a kid right out of high school - technically still learning the system.

2. Never said USC was finesse, I said them trying to run the ball plays into Ohio State's hands and will be a style of game that Ohio State is more comfortable with. If USC had Mark Sanchez at QB in this game, there is a big difference.

3. USC was doing all of these things with some of the greatest defenses ever assembled. They've got a green QB and replace a lot of guys on defense, and traveling to east coast.

I feel Buckeyes have a lot of angles in their favor, and probably the biggest one of all, nobody giving them any respect. Home underdog, given no chance to win. Powerful stuff.

I'm 10x more of a USC fan than a Buckeye fan, but I like my angles.

I'll agree with you on the respect factor. The Buckeyes have that going for them and yes that can be powerful. I'm hoping the Trojans will just show up for a big game like usual. BOL to you and good call on the Georgia Tech 1st half last night. You read that game perfectly.

BOL, I'm just watching. USC best OL in the USA, RB 3rd best. O'Dowd, Byers, Brown & Co. will open some big holes for McKnight & Johnson, IMHO! But since I don't have any $$ on it, & you do hope it's SC by 6, hate the Bucks. BOL again

4* Ohio State Buckeyes +7 -110
1* Ohio State Buckeyes ML +240

Of the past few years with Ohio State you had an over confident, cocky team playing a super underrated athletic Florida team with a tremendous coach for the title and they got waxed. Last year you had Ohio State travel out to California on a long west coast trip, with a rookie QB, against the current Jets starting QB and they got waxed. And the examples go on and on.

The example I see is that Ohio St loses when they play better teams with better talent. Being the top dog in the Big 10 isn't what it used to be. They are a good program, but maybe they are overconfident because after beating most teams in the Big 10 they think they can beat the top 3-4 teams in the country.

One of the biggest factors in sports, especially college football, is putting these guys on a plane and sending them to another coast. It plays a huge factor to fly cross country in a big game. It turns LSU into a near victim against a winless Washington team. It turns a good Penn State team into mush in the Rose Bowl. It turns a good Cal team into a blowout at Tennessee, and the next year it turns Tennessee into mush at Cal. USC is 1-4 ATS last 5 games as a road favorite, and that was with an experienced QB.

Trends ATS are fine, but SC doesn't seem to have too many issues flying across the country and laying beat downs on teams. Is USC 8 pts better than Ohio St, anywhere, anytime? I think they are.

First, my favorite sports betting angle: Always fade rookie QBs making their first start on the ROAD. I can't tell you how different it is, I can't tell you how bad these guys crap their pants, it happens 80% of the time.

Great point, but some guys are definitely a cut above and from all accounts Barkley is one of that 20%. It really helps that he is surrounded by lots of talent and just has to manage the game and not be the star. We'll see.

Ohio State 27
USC 23

I'm not an SC fan, but they are still very loaded with talent, and maybe are not getting the respect because they lose to Oregon St. last year and Stanford at home the year before, causing them to be absent from National Title talk. I know you make good picks, but I don't see Ohio St. hanging with the condoms.

2* Florida Gators -36.5 -110

With UF scoring 49+ and Troy scoring 10 or less, this cover seems pretty simple with Florida playing at 1pm at home in the blistering Florida heat, Troy will run out of gas quickly, while Florida has been practicing in it.

Florida 52
Troy 10

Hate to critique, but I'm sure you are aware that Troy is located between Montgomery and Auburn Alabama...........it's pretty close to the same damn weather as Florida.

Im an AU homer, but do I sense a little left over love for Mullen in this one? I don't like giving 14 in any SEC game, but I think the line is begging state in this one. Dixon is back for MSU and they will need him to step up big time. If AU can stop the run, they should win the game.

AU has more playmakers this year than they did last year when they were picked to win the west. They just had a dysfunctional coaching staff that didn't care and it showed. I just don't think MSU has the playmakers to win on the road against a AU team that is hungry to win.

Always like your plays and write-ups, just throwing my two cents in the ring. No play for me and I'll take an AU win, but I'd like to see AU put them away
