On Monday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame released the official 2020 Hall of Fame ballot. The 32-player ballot includes 14 holdovers from last year and 18 newcomers. Here are those 18 candidates new to the ballot, in alphabetical order:

  • Bobby Abreu
  • Josh Beckett
  • Heath Bell
  • Eric Chavez
  • Adam Dunn
  • Chone Figgins
  • Rafael Furcal
  • Jason Giambi
  • Raul Ibanez
  • Derek Jeter
  • Paul Konerko
  • Cliff Lee
  • Carlos Pena
  • Brad Penny
  • J.J. Putz
  • Brian Roberts
  • Alfonso Soriano
  • Jose Valverde
Obviously, Jeter is going in on the first ballot, possibly even unanimously after longtime Yankees teammate Mariano Rivera became the first unanimous Hall of Fame inductee earlier this year. Abreu has a decent stathead case for the Hall of Fame and other first-timers like Giambi, Konerko, Lee, and Soriano had long careers that should garner Hall of Fame votes, though induction is unlikely.

Jeter obviously 1st ballot

Do any of these guys EVER make it?

Would Josh Beckett have a chance or not enough?

Jeter gets in easily, but a way overrated player that made it out longevity more than ability.

Play 20 or so seasons , don't get injured, you get your 3,000 hits and make the Hall, the nice batting average helps too !, and a few rings

He is overrated , I'm more impressed by his skills with women than his glove !

I get the feeling he's probably a prick in person.

Dave Kingman would fit very well in today's version of baseball.

My brother was married to his sister/ cousin or something for a few years circa 1979, her surname was Kingman and closely related to the ballplayer.

I haven't seen him in like 8 or more years, but his most current wife, to my knowledge would not turn any heads !

Values change with age

More importantly this Kingman chick was a 10, and he scored them like he was Jeter, while I scrape by 7's, an occasional 8, a 6 on a bad day, a 5 if desperate!

I think 3 get in .. Jeter, Figgons, and JJ Putz.

In all seriousness, what a weak class. Just Jeter, shouldn't be unanimous simply because many much better players were unanimous. Silly baseball voters, by why make it any different for Jeter.

I wonder if some older "tainted" players make it in since not many new candidates will.

Dave Kingman is a guy that was ahead of his time, on the cusp of the HOF, just a bit short in the end.

Jeter gets in easily just because of his 3,400 hits alone, maybe not unanimous, but close to it .

I have a strong feeling he's not a nice guy in person ?

Dave Kingman would fit very well in today's version of baseball.

He had an obp above league average three times in a 16 year career. Hit enough homeruns to have more than zero wins above average only seven times. Probably the worst defensive player in the entire league throughout his career. That doesn't fit in well in any version of baseball

Walker made a huge jump last year, but don't see him gaining another 20% in his last shot. Abreau easily the second best of the newcomers. Bonds, Clemens, Schilling are all easily good enough to make it. With weed now legal in almost half the country, seems silly to keep those guys out for drugs -- and there is no evidence against Schilling anyway
