AL BARAKA Sports take on Al Bait/Valencia in the men's division final of the Caltex Bahrain Summer Volleyball Tournament after the two teams clinched easy victories in their last elimination round matches at Al Ahli Club Gym in Mahooz.

The tournament is organised by the Filipino Club Volleyball Group and co-sponsored by Baraka Sports and Qatar Airways.

The women's A division will be contested between Al Mas Advertising and Mirage Cargo, while BSB/RCBC and Alkomed/CFC will clash for the women's B division title.

On the last day of the elimination round, Forex Cargo settled for third place in the men's division as they lost to Al Bait/Valencia 14-25, 12-25.

Bong Hunter proved to be the main weapon of Al Bait/Valencia as he smashed the ball at will giving no room for Forex Cargo's defence to get back into the game. With good settings from veteran Vic Olalia, Al Bait/Valencia players had a field day honing their spiking skills.

Baraka Sports beat BB Smashers, 25-12, 25-16 to set up the championship match against Al Bait. Jassim Mohammed played consistently while George Penat and Robert Narra supported their team in battering the winless BB Smashers.

Baraka Sports led the elimination round with a 5-1 record, followed by Al Bait/Valencia, 4-2, Forex Cargo 3-3 and BB Smashers 0-6.

Forex Cargo could not make the final even though they were awarded a replay following a protest against Baraka Sports, who sealed victory with a 25-18, 25-14 drubbing.

In the women's B division, BSB/RCBC defeated The Mayor team 25-11, 25-12, with Annie de Guzman and Rowena Manalang doing most of the damage. The Mayor tried in vain to battle it out with Sharon Castana taking much of the load. BSB/RCBC were ably supported by Gina Mara, Love Perreras, Thelma Mercado and Janet.

Alkomed/CFC drubbed Sahar's Angels 25-8, 25-15 to set up the showdown with BSB/RCBC.

A well-organised Alkomed/CFC led from start with consistent offence from Ruby Castro, Baby Barrozo and good defence from Chato Toting, Ophel Souribio, Apol Cruz and Jianne Abuan. Veterans Amie Canlas and Chit de los Reyes failed to shoulder the load for Sahar's Angels with only Edith Sampelo and Rose Halili in good form.

In a hotly-contested match, Mirage Cargo held on to their nerves to escape with a 26-24, 25-22 victory over Ritz Carlton, thanks to settings from Joy and powerful spikes of Merle Cripps which proved decisive.

Al Mas Advertising defeated Saling Cat 25-22, 25-16 to top the elimination round, 5-1, conceding only a game to Mirage Cargo, whom they play in the final. Ronnie Carpio spearheaded Al Mas Advertising's campaign giving a hard time to Saling Cat.

The finals will be held on Friday starting at 8am with the men's showdown.
