PORTSMOUTH — Bethany Eldredge stole her boyfriend’s credit card and used it to go out to dinner, buy liquor, go shopping and take another man to a city hotel, say police.

As a result of those and other allegations, Eldredge, 29, with addresses of 11 Norton St., South Berwick, Maine, and 179 Old Post Road, York, Maine, is charged with six crimes and being held on cash bail.
Following a police investigation, Eldredge was arrested Thursday night and arraigned from the Rockingham County House of Corrections by video Friday morning. Police prosecutor Tom Grella presented the court with the six charges, including a felony count of forgery alleging Eldredge stole checks from a close relative and forged one to make purchases at a city store.
The other five charges, all class A misdemeanors, allege Eldredge used her boyfriend’s credit card to rent a room at the Best Western, buy liquor at the rotary liquor store, dine at Sake restaurant and shop for clothing in the Vaughn Mall.

The alleged victim told police that after he was notified about suspicious activity on his credit card, he went to the Best Western where he was told a room was rented in his name and asked front desk personnel for a key to the room. When he got to the room, he found Eldredge with the other man and bags of clothing purchased with his card, police allege.
According to an affidavit by Officer Adam Kozlowski, the alleged victim said he was also missing cash and an electronic mechanism for purchasing gasoline. The family member alleged to have been the victim of stolen checks also reported stolen jewelry and credit cards.

Grella told Portsmouth District Court Judge Sharon DeVries that Eldredge is also wanted on a warrant from Somersworth, has a criminal history “in various jurisdictions in two states” and theft convictions dating back to 1997.
Judge DeVries set bail at $2,500 cash, instructed Eldredge to have no contact with the alleged victims if she posts bail, and to return to the court for a Sept. 2 probable cause hearing. Eldredge called the bail “impossible” for her to raise.

Wow, sounds like somebody had a bad day.

Being that it happened in Maine, I am surprised that this didn't turn into a murder.
