his highlight film was the Clemson game. I know because I've been watching him for 3 years. He really amped up his blocking ability last year which is huge for NFL but he will still be 50/50 for being a first rounder and 0/100 for being first overall pick. silly discussion really

Silly would be you calling tj clemmings a top 10 pick a week before the draft. I guarantee Howard gets drafted higher than that fat failure did....no chance at #1 I agree but remember we had people here saying Matt Barkley was a lock for #1 overall (before Kiffin ruined his career)

Therx has never had good talent evaluators. Just a bunch of fanboys for the most part and one guy that's obsessed with posting about mothers and milk...

I just got to laugh about this. Busted WITH weed AND a STOLEN HANDGUN.....ALL CHARGES get dropped. Florida player "barks" at a police dog and gets arrested.....

the larger story....two other guys in car were released so the cop could focus on the two bama players. and the weed was 1g which for 4 grown men is something silly. BTW, not defending CAM/HOOTIE...i think they made a really stupid decision and are representing their university poorly but, as usual, the media only gave the public a very small part of the story

If Jerry Jones has learned one thing in the entire Cam Robinson/Hootie Jones brouhaha this week, he's learned not to speak in sound bytes.

Jones (no relation to Hootie Jones), the district attorney for Ouachita Parish, La., has become a national celebrity, and not in a good way, for his brief explanation as to why he chose not to prosecute Jones and Robinson, and it isn't hard to see why. He came across as flippant at best and as an enabler of athletes at worst when he told a Monroe television station why he chose not to prosecute the two.

"I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning," Jones told KNOE-TV.

It's an indefensible statement, made in an inescapable context. But let's be fair about something here.

Jones did have more to say. Many people heard the viral clip and reacted to that with indignation and, in some cases, accusations. There were, however, obvious legal and procedural reasons why he chose not to proceed with the case, and he talked about those, albeit carefully.

First, he spoke of the difficulty that he would face, under Louisiana law, with gaining a conviction on the single gun charge in the case, which was brought against Robinson. The gun in Jones' possession was apparently legal in Louisiana, an "open carry" state. In order to convict Robinson on a stolen gun charge, Jones told the Monroe News Star, he faced an uphill battle because "possession of stolen property is a very, very difficult crime to prosecute." Jones added in the News Star article that there must be proof the defendant was aware, or should have been aware, that the property was stolen when he took possession of it in order to gain a conviction.

The issue was further complicated by the presence of two passengers in the car, identified in an arresting officer's affidavit as Jaquez Splond and Steven Jones, who were released without arrest at the scene. The two apparently gave conflicting answers when asked who owned the gun.

A prosecutor's decision not to pursue the gun charge, then, could be defensible. Part of any district attorney's job is recognizing a situation where he does not have sufficient evidence to win his case. Once that decision was made on the gun charge, it's fairly easy to understand the reluctance to go to trial for a minuscule amount of marijuana.

Again, that wasn't, according to Jones, the "main" reason. But it certainly must have entered into the thought process on whether to proceed or not. Reasonable people can disagree with Jones' conclusion, but no reasonable reading indicates that he had a slam-dunk conviction on his hand. There is also no evidence to indicate that any undue influence from anyone connected with Alabama was brought to bear. That won't stop people from saying that something shady happened, just as some do whenever they disagree with a judge or a prosecutor. But the people who scream most loudly about "evidence" seem unconcerned with evidence of that sort of foul play.

Jones could have avoided an avalanche of criticism by raising those points and steering away from the air-conditioning analogy. That's his mistake. But it's clear, air-conditioning or not, that he didn't think he had an airtight case.

btw it was 0.5g of weed :) ... anyway, more info...doesn't change the fact I think hootie and cam should miss the USC game, but that's Nick's decision

"There was no justifiable grounds for prosecution under any evidence rule that exists," Guerriero said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. "It's basic 101 Law that there were no grounds for prosecution based on what happened."

DA Jerry Jones agreed to the point he halted prosecution. The headline-grabbing charge was Robinson's possession of a stolen firearm. In an interview with KNOE-TV, Jones explained the issues with that particular charge.

"It might be under the driver's seat but I can't prove who put it there," Jones told the local TV station. "Even if I could get DNA showing that he had touched it at some point in time, that does not mean that he obtained it."

Though only Robinson and Jones were arrested and taken to jail, there were four people in Robinson's rental car early in the morning of May 17. The other two were handcuffed initially, Guerriero said, but only Jones and Robinson were booked. The incident report obtained through public records made no mention of the other two involved in the case.

Only a half gram of marijuana was found in the car, Guerriero said, and nobody had clear possession. The arrests were made, Guerriero said, only after Jones alerted police to the gun on his lap.

"Mr. Jones is the one who called it to the police's attention because he didn't want anything to happen," Guerriero said. "'Look, I have a gun in my lap. My hands are up. I just want to show you.'"
Possessing the gun didn't violate the law, so Guerriero said were no grounds for further searches. The attorney said it wasn't clear if the car occupants gave consent to search the vehicle.
"Nothing said they did," Guerriero said.

Jerry Jones, the local DA, said there were considerations beyond the evidence that went into his decision to drop prosecution.

They had a STOLEN handgun in their possession and drugs, which are not legal in Louisiana. Stolen guns and drugs....all charges dropped. Hilarious. But Bama fan justifies it....

Is this an example of the oft-complained pussification of our youth?

The DA says (paraphrasing), "these boys sweatin it out, while we up in the a.c. all comfy. Also, my decision is more personal than legal."

The dude actually said that! Sounds like he was putting it out there publicly to make sure he gets that "swag package".

again, nobody is justifying anything. i think they are dumbasses that got very lucky they happened to get pinched in a state with very relaxed gun laws. Hootie's carrying a weapon was legal and it is nearly impossible in LA to prove ownership of a stolen handgun as you have to prove that the owner knew it was stolen.

they got lucky but should not have gotten completely off. should be doing community service or slapped with a misdemeanor. they went to the gun range that evening and obviously should have dropped the guns off at home before heading back out. bad decision, not a felony

as far as the weed...1/2 gram is = one joint for 4 guys. not exactly intent to sell :)

i don't condone the decisions they made nor am i happy that Bama is getting this press from outlaw programs like some of you have going but that is the nature of 2016. The story was misrepresented from the beginning because it was Bama.

I will be disappointed in CNS if Cam and Hootie are playing against USC but this episode was blown way out of proportion with some dumb fucks now comparing it to murder. sheesh, get a life

i don't condone the decisions they made nor am i happy that Bama is getting this press from outlaw programs like some of you have going but that is the nature of 2016. The story was misrepresented from the beginning because it was Bama.

I will be disappointed in CNS if Cam and Hootie are playing against USC but this episode was blown way out of proportion with some dumb fucks now comparing it to murder. sheesh, get a life

My bigger problem is with the DA. Why the fuck is he talking publicly? Frankly, I think that's given this even more legs. We all know kids are dumbasses and I'm all for second chances. The cannabis issue is quite frankly lame. It shouldn be universally legal, especially if alcohol is. By the way, I'm seeing the double meaning of "roll"tide. Nice looking spliffs....but what are those filters? Pffttt...more pussification :)!/

I'm guessing that Bama does not drug test it's players. And if this is not the first time they've smoked a blunt, why no failed tests?

The more important issue to me is the stolen gun. That's one that someone should have to explain. How does someone have a stolen gun and not get a charge of some type. BTW...not surprising coming from Monroe, La. I'm sure there was some financial bartering that the DA benefited from. La and Ms are some of the poorer states in the US, and I'm sure you could buy your way out of just about any situation. And in this case, there wont be any pressure on the DA.

Again, it's a Louisiana thing. Cam, and perhaps the other two unnamed guys in car, got very lucky they were pinched in Monroe, and not in DC or Chicago. In Louisiana the prosecution must prove that the person with possession of the gun (and in this case it was lying under a seat) must have either stolen the gun themselves or acquired a gun they know was stolen. The DA had about a 5% chance of proving that Cam, or the other two (not Hootie as his gun was legal) knowingly acquired a stolen weapon or stole it themselves.

still 4 dumbasses...not more to say on that issue. you would think with Rolando McClain coming to speak to the team every year they would learn better than to go out shooting and smoking in their 2 weeks off campus but they don't learn. Cam has/had so much to lose that he's the one to focus on but while i am disappointed in them they are not criminals or felons, just really fn stupid

I didn't grow up in a gun culture so i can't tell you if driving around with your legal (hootie) gun is the way da boyz roll but I don't really see much good that can come of it. I've got a few weapons but only bring them out to shoot when i head to the boonies of PA. If I were at the range then wanted to hang out and smoke some weed in a park 7 hours later i sure as shit would drop them back off at home or, at the very least, put them in the trunk.

in all honestly cam and hootie should be getting ridiculed for only having a half gram of weed on them ;)
