they're asking a federal judge to stop a Miami_Dade Country school district from removing communist propaganda children's books from it's libraries. These scumbags stand for anything that is against American ideals and principles. If they're not actively defending jihadists they are promoting communism (in accordance with their mission statement).http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060621/ap_on_re_us/cuban_book_ban

My point is that the ACLU are a bunch of asshole judicial extortionists that spend tax dollars to promote their communist, anti-Christian agenda. Get it?

So you're in favor of viewpoint censorship from libraries? These books are not obscenity, child pornography, defamatory or fighting words. They are a viewpoint. Like ACLU said, provide the opposing viewpoint.

This is America, not Cuba.

Yet again you're off. The basis for the lawsuit is that this school board (which appears to be government funded) are censoring books without even due process or any attempt to provide an opposing view (all this was because of a complaint in April...nice due diligence up to that point on the books by the way)

Every lawsuit they (ACLU) bring is based on the premise that it violates the Bill of Rights (in this case, censorship and freedom of speech). Don't like it? Then change the bill of rights.

They want the books removed because they depict smiling uniformed children in a communist country (the horror)!
In other words they want the truth censored, pure and simple. And the ACLU says why would you want to do that?

If they worked in some children's books on the virtues of Islamfascism and jihad, would that make you guys happy? People have a right to teach their kids whatever they want. If they don't want to feed their kids communist propaganda, then they have a right to exclude them from their library. The same with jihadist children's books. And gay children's books.

The libraries have rights too..like the right to choose what books to have in their building. I think this is another judicial extortion attempt by the ACLU. We'll see how it plays out.

I'd agree here. Fuking assholes how dare they fight against censorship, and a narrow minded agenda of favoritism for the new american theocracy. Mutherfukkers, none of us gives a shit about the Bill of Rights.

You jaded prick, it's about due process. Oh that's right, you Neocon lovers could give a shit about a fundamental protection we all enjoy.

Oops doesn't look like this happened in a vacuum :howdy:

...the books have received favorable reviews in nationally recognized publications including Publishers Weekly and the School Library Journal. The suit also cites staff recommendations to keep the books.

"The Miami-Dade School Board's decision to defy U.S. law prohibiting censorship and ignore the recommendation of their own superintendent and two committees is a slap in the face to our tradition of free speech and the school board's own standards of due process...."

Smiling children are a threat to you? How do you type your drivel while hiding under your bed?
Oh I know, you must have the lower bunk since you're the "big" brother.

The board decided, the library passed on one complaint.

When the pic was taken they were smiling. They may have had guns trained on them, I don't know since I don't engage in speculation. Something you excel in.

Does the book say the kids are happier? Or does it show happy kids? Big difference.

Again...we'll see how it plays out. I sounds like you lefties are the ones consumed by fear. I'm ready and willing to accept whatever the courts decide in this.

Cowards censor. (And yes, I see the irony since I voted to ban doc a while back)

Maybe they should exclude all books that don't refer to George W. Bush as The Almighty Decider and Freedom-Giver.

The Library is PUBLIC -- that means it is run and funded by the Government. The Government is not supposed to be in the business of viewpoint censorship. The answer is to provide all viewpoints, not to ban certain viewpoints.

Fear that the Bill if Rights is being eroded and discarded on a daily basis, yes. This is the smallest of issues, but it is symbolic of an attitude. An Anti-American attitude that look to censor viewpoints that they disagree with. That's something Cuba might do, but does that mean we should?

This is a democratic society and country. Our schools are not legallyobligated or bound to give equal time or representation to communism, socialism, fascism or any other -ism.

JinnRikki said the truth is that communist children are smiling (happy). I'm questioning his opinion, not the books.

One way we can clear up this whole issue is to get rid of all public schools. If the private schools want to censor this crap then that's fine. They should start with my 4th grade social studies text that claimed Mao Zedong's Great Leap Forward was a success.
