so we only judge a coach by the performance of his team in their last game and ignore the rest? i guess David Shaw is out too.....
Shaw was out already of the discussion but to you point, we shouldn't. Baylor is way too undisciplined. The fact that they won the B12 just shows us all how DOWN the Big12 is this year. Just too many crazy penalties. They were not very sharp, but it could have been because their coaches were not paying attention to details all week.

If Texas was smart they'd hand Mark D'Antonio a blank check. I'm not sure why he wouldn't be near the top of their list.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, except over a bit longer period for Baylor than one game. Briles has been kind of a hit and miss this season. Looked absolutely brilliant for most of the games, and then got skulldragged in Stillwater, struggled at TCU, beat a sub par Texas team at home and then drops a disastrous Fiesta Bowl to UCF. It doesn't sway my personal thinking of Briles. I think he would have an Auburn type of offense and a much better defense if he had Texas athletes. But my guess is the Texas search committee is made up of people who don't think like we do on this board. Things you have to consider with Briles, and Briles has to consider before taking that job. From what I've heard about the man is he doesn't like pressing the flesh, he doesn't like donors, he doesn't really like the fans either. And he pretty much wants to be left alone so he can coach his football team. So Texas will have to decide if they want a real X's and O's football coach or another Mack Brown.

I'm hearing the Charlie Strong interview went, "okay". While he's a sound defensive guy, he's not very polished and "does not" interview very well at all. Which could be a problem in Austin. Let's face it, whoever is hired for the UT job has to be savvy. Charlie Strong, while he might be a great coach, is not very articulate/polished. And I don't mean to be disparaging with that comment. On top of that, he's won at L'Ville where his only marquee win was over a very down Florida team in the Sugar Bowl. If you look at L'ville, who have they beaten while he's been there? They lost their one big game this year to UCF. Last year they lost to Cuse and UConn, Previous year they lost 6 games. Granted, I know he inherited a mess, but he's been playing in the old Big East which really had no marquee teams the last 4 years. 7-6, 7-6, 11-2, 12-1.

Thoughts?

Charlie is very uncomfortable with the media, not polished at all.

Prefers defense over offense and you are correct, hasn't beaten anyone of substance except Florida. He recruits Florida hard, half the team is from there, he isn't a good fit at all for Texas.

He's a good coach, we're lucky to have him, but if he goes I wish him the best.

D'Antonio had some problems with his ticker last year. So his health would have to be taken into consideration. I know ESPN is rolling out a list of coaches for their media darlings, but I'm not sure I believe any of it. It wouldn't surprise me if some of these coaches have already turned down that job.

Dantonio is a good coach but isn't the man for tx. He wouldn't fit well there.

You mean the yearly $30 million check we receive from TLN annually? Yeahhhhhhh, we screwed that up realllllllly bad. Oh, and how did y'all handle Baylor this year? And how did The Cotton Bowl treat y'all this year? Ooopsiedaisy!
Typical Texas fan. Thinks about the money the school is making and watches his football team full of 4 and 5 star athletes lose the Big 12 every year. Do you really think any of us outside of Texas care how much the school makes off a contract with ESPN? All we know is the LHN caused the conference to lose 4 teams, and will never win a national championship again in it's current state. That makes it a FAILURE. Because of his greed your AD didn't want to add 2 more teams to the conference last year when they had the perfect opportunity to do so. FSU, Clemson, Louisville and even the team who beat Baylor last night UCF would have been great adds. And I believe this conference could have gotten at least 2 of those teams if they would have had the fortitude to go after them. But instead they were thinking like Texas, and only thinking about the money part and getting a bigger slice of the pie with 10 teams. Deloss Dodds, and the Big 12 commissioner has made this entire conference the laughing stock of the country. They are no longer a competitive conference in BCS games. KSU didn't come close in their BCS game last year. Baylor didn't come close this year. And OU won't beat Bama tonight. I know this is a broken record to you, SDF and some of the other Texas backers in here, but it REALLY is Texas fault.

Maybe Texas looks to the NFL for its next coach, maybe with the recently fired Mike Shannahan? Shanny getting up there in years though, or Gruden as well?

They might have to go the NFL route. I get the feeling their coaches list is bigger than what ESPN is rolling out to the viewers.

What Texas has done is make a lot of coaches money because their universities have given the coaches a raise to stay (FSU, Mich St, Bama, A&M, Aub). I hear Ed Orgeron would interview if offered to. But seriously, I would not be surprised to see one of the guys in the NCG take the Texas job. They are in need of a big splash. and they have the resources to pay the coach and pay off the buyout. Of course, it would also be like Texas to announce the hiring on the day of the NCG to try to garner attention. I do think they'll make a good decision though. Patterson is typically very deliberate but his reasoning is very, very sound.

I've be seeing Jim Mora's name being brought up quite a bit lately on Twitter. I think he would be a pretty good hire. But as a Sooners fan it wouldn't scare me that much if true. Knowing UT they are probably looking for bigger fish out there

Patterson is familiar with him. Mora was on his shortlist he suggested to LL to replace Erickson but she went rogue and botched it. UCLA then hired him and we were left out in the cold. IMO, he's a great coach in the making. He's a hard ass but his players love him. He can get into livingrooms as well, momma's love him. UCLA just extended him w/raise but again, we're talking Texas so its a blank check. If they could get him and OC Mazzone, it would be a huge upgrade. UCLA is awfully young and the sky truly is the limit, especially if QB Hundley comes back to Westwood. I don't think they are losing very many players off their 2 deep roster. Mora also turned down UW which is his alma mater a couple weeks back, FWIW.
