[h=1]If you live in Arizona, I have some good news for you.[/h]
Yesterday, the Grand Canyon state announced that legalized sports betting would go live on Thursday, Sept. 9-- the same day as the NFL's opening night showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Daily Fantasy Sports, known as DFS, will launch even sooner on Aug. 28.
Arizona has become somewhat of a model state for legalized betting, both in terms of competition and quickness and ease to market. On Monday, we saw the state's Department of Gaming post its legal sports betting rules and also open the license application process. The state is set to allow 20 different mobile operators, which already includes books like DraftKings, FanDuel, Barstool, PointsBet and Caesars. The number of mobile operators is much more than other states, which is great news for bettors. Simply put, there will be more books, which allows bettors more options to place their bets and get better numbers. While mobile is set to launch first, retail betting in person is expected to follow shortly after, with sportsbooks set to launch at the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals stadiums.
Arizona could quickly become one of the faster growing legal states. It is home to 7.5 million residents, making it the 14th-most populous state. It is also strategically located next to the vast Southern California market as well as the New Mexico and Texas markets to the East.
