the words i hate the most from an athlete are "i would like to thank god".....the one that still sticks in my mind is when the colts staged a miraculous 4th quarter comeback against tampa bay on a monday night game and peyton manning and tony dungy "thanked god" for the victory and i thought what a load of crap as it implies that "god" wanted to persecute tampa bay tonight by blowing a 21 point lead with 5 minutes left.....like jesse ventura says, religion is a crutch for the weak minded

i get irked by a few, too although i agree with Caesar - in that if God was one your side - and you won - does that mean if you lse - the Devil is on your side. God has a hell of a lot more important things to do than help countless teams win a game each and every day - unless God plaved a wager on the game

i used to get crap like this all the time when i would go into locker rooms after the game and get some post-game sound and hear the SAME crap OVER AND OVER AND.....

"It's not about the money": this means it IS about the money it's just the athlete doesn't wanna come across as a sh*thead to all. if it's not about the money - then sign with the worst team in the league for the minimum salary

"We just played it 1 down at a time": NO SH*T! how else are you supposed to play it - 4 downs at a time?

"NO ONE gave us a chance/We didn't get any respect": OK - if your team is a 35-point dog in football or +1000 to win the series - i can buy some of this. but we hear teams that are FAVES say this. recall the Pats beating the Colts in the playoffs - and seemingly ALL of the pats said something like this even though they were favored/the line was close to "Pick" and they were at home. You want respect - WIN THE GAME and THEN you will get some. For those who can remember the Smith Barney Commercial - Respect is something you "Earn" - it is NOT given to you.

And have you every noticed in hockey EVERY player's name seemingly ends in "Y"

so they are interviewing, say, Brett Hull after the game and he describes the winning goal he scored:

"Ozzy (Chris Osgood)" made the save and got it to "Chely (Chris Chelios)" who passed it to "Nicky (Nick Lidstrom)" who made a rush up ice and got it to "Shanny (Brendan Shanahan)" who fed to the puck to "Joey (Kocur - whose name does end in "Y" but if it didn't he would have gotten it added to his name)" who got it to me and I scored the goal and afterwards I told "Lewey (Head Coach Dave Lewis)" it was great we work on that play all the time in practice

***gimme time - i'm sure i will think of more

I like when they point to the sky after a score. Why don't they point to the ground when they choke???

"You've got to hand to the other guys. They were on top of their game. We just didn't execute."

The one thing I liked about Don Nelson, the former Mav's coach, was that he would say things like, "I am really hacked off that "X" didn't rebound more and that he seemed to be holding back. We stunk on defense and our shot selection was out the window." Now, he was a good coach and maybe it really was time for him to step down (as evidenced) but I LOVED to here his interviews. He seemed to be enjoyably honest and didn't fall into 'coach speak' too often. tulsa
