Are There Any NFL Players You Feel Could Have Jumped To The NFL Directly From High School?

The first name that popped in my head was Calvin Johnson. That guy was a freak from the moment he set foot on the Tech campus. Could you imagine the numbers he would have put up with a quarterback that knew his ass from a hole in the ground?

I would take my chances with:

Randy Moss

Jim Brown
Barry Sanders
Herschel Walker

Maybe Ray Lewis (Don't recall how big he was)

And probably a few shut down corners.

Not many though.

Michael Vick. It's not like he improved any from his time in college through his time in the pros.

orlando pace couldnt have made it as he would have been man handled by defensive ends in the pros. it took him a couple yrs to build NFL muscles.

a few more that come to mind from Ohio are andy katzenmoyer and maurice clarrett. those guys were true freshman and put on amazing shows in national championship games........

clarrett's crime record alone made him a perfect fit for an NFL team.

Larry Fitzgerald

Besides his awesome physical gifts, he had the advantage of being exposed to NFL type training w/the Vikings. His dad knew Carter & Moss quite well, and his job as "ball boy" put him in close contact on a daily basis. I do think he would have had a good chance.:103631605

I think the only type of players that would have a realistic chance to go pro coming straight out of highschool would be RB's or WR's. The other positions require skills that can only be developed in college. Down lineman have to develop certain blocking techniques that can only be learned over a period of time in college. QB's have to learn to read much more complicated defensive sets than they saw in highschool. I would say a DB might have a chance. But the level of the WR's they see from highschool to college doesn't even compare. I think the real question here is what pro teams would take a player coming straight out of highschool. My guess is it would be very few if any.
