Are the Yankees going to be the betting favorite to win it with Sabathia and Burnett?

i don't like it. The only pitcher with big game playoff experience is Burnett. I am pretty weary about him though. He is a pitch away from the disabled list. I am also concerned about the way CC was abused the last few months by the Brewers. He is liable to come in and get injured within the first month. I said it all last season when it was taking place that the overuse wouldn't show until this season coming up. I know they locked up Marte, but they still need to address some middle relief help. I just don't like how they are doing things. I thought they had learned and were going to focus more on developing their own talent. The teams of the dynasty years were for the most part all home grown talent. They seemed like they were going to try that route again by passing on Johna last year, but I guess 1 bad year totally scrapped those plans? I mean I know it's the Yankees and they are no such thing as "rebuilding" year, but I was under the assumption that last year was just that, "rebuilding". They still barely missed out on the playoffs, and really wish they stayed the course, and continued to let Hughes, Kennedy, and Joba develop. Now what happens to Hughes and Kennedy? They held off on Santana (who imo would much rather have in comparison to CC) because they were going to develop these guys. If I was Cashman I would have passed Sabathia, and turn my attention to smaller names such as Lowe, Willy Taveras, and Brian Fuentes, along with re-signing Pettite. I think taveras would be a great fit in center field. They need players that play team baseball. Having a lineup of all stars that all just want to hit home runs obviously isn't working.

why do u guys do this all the time when the yankees spend money... ive said it time and time again if u have the money spend it... it really doesnt matter though because they got away from the model when they had the dynasty of gettting the hard nosed veterans to go with the developed kids... for whatever reason the yanks dont want to do that anymore... this is why they arent winning and wont win titles... u know there will be injuries among other problems... i just wish u guys wouldnt waste your time saying how baseball sucks because we all know it does... so all the small market teams like the a's, royals, pirates, etc have no chance... either get a new team or stop complaining or dont watch baseball... u guys would do the same thing if u were the owner of a team with unlimited funds...

reason the NYY can afford to spend so much is they make so much $$$$. Not because the owner is super rich and tries to buy a championship. i think they have more than enough to win it all , and should be favored to win it all.

been there, done that. they won't win the world series. choke artists.

Been there done that? You have a very short memory. The yankees have a pretty long history of winning and have won 4 world series in recent history. So to people that think they can't win with a big budget is comical.

To be honest, it was only really the last year or two where the Yankees DIDN'T start the season as favourites anyway

After signing CC + AJ then I see no reason that the bookies wont put them back in as favs this year - in fact the few books who are currently offering the World Series already have them as favs at around +650...
Yesterday I visited almost all of the different sportsbooks chains here in Vegas and the best odds I saw anywhere on the Yankees was 7/2. Before the Yankees went on their spending spree the current odds here in Vegas was around 6/1 with one book hanging a 8/1. If your inclined to wager on the Yankees this year, my advice is to grab the + 650 because it will not be there long if it is still there now. At + 350 it's a no go for me ! I kinda wish now that I had grabbed some of the 8/1 as I was expecting the Yanks to buy some talent as they usually do, but I didn't expect them to spend that much $$. It's too early to tell if they spent it wisely however but I think they are still getting older with their core hitting.

Their lineup is one year older. Defense still sucks although Cameron would be an upgrade even at his age. CC has alot of milage on that arm and as prodigy mentioned has never come up big in postseason. Boston still better even after their 240 million (cough cough) they spent.

Both pitchers overrated Burnett will probably get injured and untill last year people were saying was he worth the 10 million a year the Jays were paying him. 1 good year and everone forgets that before that he was basicly a .500 pitcher with injury problems.

Same with Sabathia way overrated because of his good second half after he got traded.

I dont care who you are no one player is worth 20+ million a year. Between him and Arod thats like 50 million per year you could have 5 pretty good players making 10 million per year for that price.
