[h=2]Go For Broke Day[/h]
Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always April 5

Are you a gambler? Then, today, is your day. It's Go For Broke Day. Today is a day to put it all on the line, and take a chance. It might be money. Or, it can be a love relationship. Perhaps, it's time to initiate a risky project, or to take a new job.
Many of us go about our daily lives playing it safe, not taking big chances. If you are of a conservative ilk, you may have never gone out on a limb, or taken big risks. If this sounds like you, maybe today is a day to really let loose and "Go for Broke".
If you can muster up the courage to take a big risk, you can enjoy today by taking big risks and "Going for Broke". We will leave it up to you to decide whether the risk is worth taking.

Origin of "Go For Broke Day": Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day.

Reader Comments:
".....Being a history Buff, I know that during World War II, the most decorated unit in the US Army was a unit made up of Japanese Americans. .......I found “April 5-6, 1945: 442and Regimental Combat Team makes a surprise attack on Nazi mountainside positions in Italy, breaking through the Nazi Gothic Line in one day. That may be related to the Go for Broke Day." Thanks.,Alan J. Rod, Instructor, USAF Public Affairs Center of Excellence

[h=2]Deep Dish Pizza Day[/h]

Date When Celebrated : This holiday event is always held on April 5
Many major cities have a culinary specialty that they are known for. Chicago, Illinois is famous world-wide, for it's Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza. These pizzas are so great, that Chicago couldn't keep the recipe a secret. Nowadays, you can get a deep dish pizza almost anywhere in the U.S., and in many parts of the world, too. Many people say Chicago makes the best pizzas in the world. So, it only stands to reason, that the best deep dish pizza is only made in Chicago. We concur.
Today, people all over the world celebrate Deep Dish Pizza Day. We have no doubt about what you will do today, to savor and enjoy this special holiday.
The deep dish pizza was created in 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. It was created by Ike Sewell, founder of Pizzeria Uno. The deep dish pizza recipe calls for a deep, buttery, and crunchy crust. If you follow the original recipe, and we hope you do, the cheese is on top of the dough, and the sauce is on top of the cheese. You can add any other toppings, as you prefer.
Did You Know? The first pizza was made in the country of Greece.... not Italy.

Celebrate today with a Chicago style deep dish pizza, with any and all of your favorite toppings.

History and Origin of "National Deep Dish Pizza Day": Our research dug deep, to find as much as we could about Deep Dish Pizza Day. While we know who created deep dish pizzas, we do not know who created this holiday. Usually, it is not the same person. We're all but certain it was created by someone who loves the infamous Chicago style deep dish pizza. The creator of this day most likely lives in Chicago, IL.
This holiday appears to have been created in 2015. There is no reference to this event prior to 2015.
When this holiday event was first created, it was called Deep Dish Pizza Day. The word "National" was somehow added in 2017, for no apparent reason. We did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations making this a true national day.

[h=2]National Dandelion Day[/h]
dandelion-flower.jpg

Date When Celebrated : Always April 5

Any plant as versatile and durable as the dandelion, certainly deserves a special day set aside to honor it. We all know of dandelions as weeds in our lawns. To kids, the dandelion is a flower to gather and bring home to mom. But, dandelions are oh so much more than just a weed. Even many gardeners think of it only as a weed. More knowledgeable gardeners know better. Dandelion leaves are edible, and are savored in soups and salads. It is rich in vitamins A, B, C, and D. Dandelions are used in making wine and for tea, too. Native Americans used it for medicinal purposes.
You can celebrate National Dandelion Day in many ways. Eat your lawn.....use this special day to introduce yourself to the joys of eating dandelions. However, it is taboo to pull dandelions or treat them like a weed today.
Caution: Do not use dandelions for food that come from treated lawns.

History and Origin of "National Dandelion Day": Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. As we continue to search for him or her, we hope you give this flower, vegetable and weed all of the honor and respect that is due.

[h=2]Read a Road Map Day[/h]

Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always April 5

Thinking about going on a road trip? Why not dust off those old paper road maps and plot a course to get away!?
Nowadays we use a GPS to go from point A to point B. It has all but completely outmoded the old paper road maps we relied on. Our GPS has also taken a bite out of the popularity of online road maps like Mapquest.
Paper maps and online travel maps are not totally obsolete. They still have a useful function, or they would not exist. You can find paper maps through state and local travel bureaus, state and local visitor centers, and at many rest stops along major highways.

Read a Road Map Day encourages us to take a step back in time perhaps, and discover the value that road maps still have. Our GPS gets us to our destination in the quickest and shortest manner. But, is your trip about the destination or the journey? Road maps can help us to identify and plot routes that makes the journey a really pleasant experience. There is so much to discover along the way. You can identify small and interesting towns or historic sites along the way that are passed by on today’s superhighways.
As we researched Read a Road Map Day, it became blatantly obvious that something was missing. If you are looking at a road map it’s likely because you are contemplating a trip. It only makes sense then, that there should be a “Take a Road Trip Day”. Surprisingly, there was no such special day. So, we created it! See Take a Road Trip Day.

Origin of Read a Road Map Day

Our research did not find the creator of this special day, or when it first began.
There was an occasional reference to this as a “national” day. However, there is no presidential proclamation or act of congress. We have found a few websites appear to be adding the “national” tag to some special days that are not a true national day.

[h=2]Palm Sunday A Christian Holy Day[/h]

When: April 5, 2020; March 28, 2021; April 10, 2022; April 2, 2023; March 24, 2024; April 13, 2025

Palm Sunday is begins the Holy week leading to Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It commemorates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem where people put palms down in front of his path.
On Palm Sunday, palms are distributed in church and blessed during the mass. People take them home and place them around religious pictures, statues or other objects. They remain there for a year until the next Palm Sunday when they are replaced by newly blessed Palms.
When discarding old palms, remember it is a blessed religious object and should be burned or buried. Some gardeners bury it in their home garden, believing it will bless the coming year's crop.

Did you Know? The ashes you receive on Ash Wednesday are from the prior years palms.
