Butternutts, You are probably thinking of candlepin bowling. It's still real popular in New England and parts of Canada.
3 balls per box (frame) and dead wood stays put. No reset between throws, so there are some wicked carom shots that usually result in bad beats. Fun game.

When I first clicked in here and saw the posting dates I immediately thought 5team. Thought maybe a famous bowler died or something.

Fester you got me. I don't know what made you bump this thread but glad you did, brought back memories when I used to bowl. Wish I stuck with it, I no doubt would've been in tournaments. It was a fork in the road when I was a youngster in which I proceeded down the other path. Makes me wonder to this day what I could have done. Bowling used to be good tv back in the '80's. Who here remembers PBA Saturday morning's on ABC?

Both my uncle and my cousin were pro bowlers. My cousin won 2 PBA titles, and I remember watching him bowl against Earl Anthony.

Holy shit, Earl Anthony was my favorite. That is some awesome shit your cousin's bowled against him. Always liked Roth too, to me he always bowled or personafied as if he was always the underdog and loved watching him win.
