The answer to your first question is "absolutely not"

The answer to the rest is that the money line is shaded lower because historically Super Bowl bettors (including a higher percentage of novices) are more likely to take the plus-money on the dog winning outright.

You will never see a middle number on this game.
This line should be about -3 with a line total of about 34.
Why do you think they opened at -7??

this game won't be close.

Cause they knew squares would line up to back the Public Patsies no matter what the spread.

You don't think the sharps would have jumped on the Pats at -3??
They put the number opening at -7 for the "appearence" of value for the Cats.
For the untrained eye.

Sure they would, when the right line is 3.5 to 5. Seven *is* value.

the books are scaring a lot of people off NE, who would have played them, by making the line 7. i for one won't be scared off the better team.

Actually doesn't matter what the line will be since Car + whatever is the smart play.

Love watching all the "everyone and their mother" money piling up on the Patsy's though.

you doubt what? That NE is going to win or the 7 is scaring some betters off NE?

When the Stardust, Mirage and Hilton combines originally posted the line at 7 followed shortly thereafter by the Coast and Station books, the managers stated that the number was set at 7 because they expected the public to be on New England and the professionals to take Carolina. For the first few hours, the line fluctuated between 6.5 and 7 as the professionals were taking the Panthers at 7 and the public was taking the Patriots at 6.5 or 7. The books have set the line high to make the public pay the price for taking the favorite. Remember, in this game there will be more public money than professional money in play. The line will probably stay around 7, but no higher in order to avoid a middle. It could go as low as 6, but probably not any lower for the same reason.

3peet, just please tell me that you're talking as a capper and not Raider fan, because we both know that right now there is probably no other team, not even Denver, that Raider fan hates more than NE.

As far as the line I don't see it going anywhere. It's at 7 at a lot of places right now. On Sunday it will move a half point down to 6.5. Around kickoff it will move again, most likely back to 7 at kickoff. Then again....?

The line will stay in the 6.5/7 range. Pats backers should have no problem buying down to 6, and Panther backers should be able to buy up to 7.5. So the only real value will be in the winning ticket. The teams seem pretty evenly matched, so I'm leaning towards the Dog, but still undecided.
