I once took an Amtrack from L.A. to Chicago. It was 52 hours. Lots of good scenery, but some boring too.
Made $80 on an 12 min. stop in Las Vegas. That was prob. the highlight LOL.

If you have time, take the train. If you are in a hurry, fly. I do break test on the locomotives in Michigan and the train in NEVER on time. The run I work on is Chicago to Port Huron, MI. That is a rather short trip, about 8 hours and it is never on time. I'm talking hours behind schedule. Amtrak is famous for being late. Good luck.

The question should be, "has anyone ever taken Amtrack across country and survived."

I prefer the train because:
A. My luggae stays with me.
B.My ears don't hurt for 2 days AFTER getting off a train.
C.I think, I can take my cell-phone on the train (may not work but I can take it)
D. I can get up and walk to go get a sandwitch or soft drink w/out tripping.
E. I don't feel like I'm choking if a 300lb gorilla sits nearby.
F.It's cheaper.

That's a great idea. I think i might do that too. They better have a alcohol room where you can smoke or else.

I travel by train at least 5 times a year and i also hate to fly. and it is a god send. Make sure you get a sleeping car with bed and also a dinning car as well as a snack car for evening munchies. See ya in L.V.!!:103631605

Can i smoke pot on the train? Anywhere on the train?
Can i bring my own booze on the train? Can i buy booze on the train? Expensive?
Am i going to sit alone in my car?
How long would it take to travel from Chicago to L.V?

I really would like to get some feedback.

kalamazoo to pomona, CA and back about 15 years ago. What a freakin party!! I was old enough to drink and young enough to enjoy the trip. I would recommend it, but personally I only fly now.
