You will have to have a legal reason for releasing. Lying is a good one. She will ask for un-employment. Don't fight it, maybe throw a couple months severance as well. Tell her the truth but assure you are not incriminating or have no just cause. Just for slacking is reason enough. Can she prove she was not slacking or incompetent or lied?
i caught her red-handed today. i was in the bank all day except for lunch. i walked to the fax machine to get something and noticed letters with my signature on them (which i did not sign). they were faxed out at 4:00 this afternoon. i was in from 8-1 and from 2-5:30. there is no excuse.

Blue, you got to let her go. The lies are a big problem. You could reccomend to her something in the field of law or politics where that fault would become an asset.

I agree. If she signs your name on letters who knows what other things she may forge your signature on. Um... like Checks.

In the past have you ever given her permission to sign your name on documents?
exactly.

permission...no way. you want a sure way to get trouble in my world? give someone else authority to sign your name.

the only thing i could think to say is, take your severance package to vegas and play no limit hold 'em.

seriously though, i could live with someone who doesn't have a great work ethic or makes mistakes but, how can i trust someone who would lie to my face?

Well you have to terminate her employment. Explain that her lack of honesty and the fact she failed to make deadlines are the reason for the termination.

You can also say that you cannot have people forging your signature as it causes a huge risk to the company and is a violation of policy.

I have, and will say that it is the toughest thing about managing people. I currently have a "problem" employee that I put on probation a month ago, and just know that it is not going to work out. I work for a very large, conservative company and documentation is imperative. I have a jacket about 4 inches thick on this guy and I am still forced to go through the motions. It is unfortunate because I like the guy on a personal level, he just is not worth a ****. He has kids, wife, ect. and that always makes it tough. If it has gotten to the point that you can not look at the person, than it is time to break them off.

can the *****; NOW

forging you name for whatever reason; next time it'll be on the company check!

let her collect unemployment if you want, but she dare not go for more cause you got the forged letters; correct? KEEP THEM 7 years my friend.

just say; you crossed the line and that's it. If too tough on ya, tell her she can collect unemployment; but honestly you have grounds to fight that.

by the way; it's a very big fallacy about unemployment taxes and what they cost you!!!!!

pay .5% for perfect record vs 2% if you have people collecting on you. BIG F$%@ing deal!!! on a 100k payroll: that's $500 vs $2000 for the year. $1500 bucks is great piece of mind in some situations!!! besides if you follow my gifts, you make that up in one play!!! http://forum.therx.com/showthread.php?t=236338

Forgery is a serious offense.

Consult an attorney.
Have her sign an agreement waiver any litigation against you in exchange for yor not prosecuting her.

Who cares if she's a single mom. She is incompetent and a criminal.
Be very careful, but do it very quickly.b

You have a right to fire her on the spot. No severance is necessary in this situation. What she did is illegal and dishonest. I would have no remorse terminating her based on what you have told me.

Who cares how many kids, wives husbands etc, its your job, if YOU dont execute your job properly then you may be fired, its an absolute no, no in a biz to sign another persons name to anything unless you were given permission,

and the WORST thing is to have a fine woman in the work place that you have a soft spot for, is screwing, dating etc, when they mess up, geez, it gets really tricky,

any way Bro, you have to let her go, thats forgery.

i have to do it. this person is just not working out. i feel pretty crappy about it.

any suggestions? how much stuff do i have to have documented?
blue

The truth is that people actually fire themselves with their behavior. What needs to be documented will be determined by your company and your state's laws.

Have your Chief of staff do it and then go upstairs and tell Laura to start packing since I just got fired.
