It depends on the person I guess. I'll take my 6 figure income and job security over a college degree.

FUNKMONKEY opines: On average, college is worth an additional $1M lifetime.

B: That's a tired old saw founded on the presumption that the non-college attendee will only be an hourly wage earner for life.

When compared to non-college types who become self employed and/or business owners, it often falls flat and in many cases proves to be the inverse.

I have 3 college degrees, and with each one I saw a direct
increase in income flow.

Grad school was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I wasn't suggesting that college degrees could not increase income flow.

My point was to note that for those who opt to become self-employed and/or business owners, promoting a college degree as being "worth $1M more income over a lifetime" will often not apply.

I think that in the coming decades which will feature continued pressure on the US job market from legal immigrants and (in some regions) declining size of corporate businesses, people of any age would be well advised to create and operate at least some form of personally owned business.

Waiting until you're in your 40s or 50s (not directing this at ZIT personally) and expecting to compete in the employment market with younger people who are equally competent for the jobs at hand sure seems to be a recipe for financial disaster.

The Millionaire Next Door is indeed a great book for anyone who has not yet secured their financial future to read.

I'd also strongly recommend Robert Kyosocki's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "Cash Flow Quadrant"

Let's put it this way

If you are an idiot. You need college.

If you aren't. You can do it without.
