It's pretty obvious why they've been hiding the PalinTron during its programming phase. They are going to have to bring the PalinTron back into the shop for PalinTron V2.0 with next test date on October 2.

Now, this shit scares me

I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning; and as president, I will end it.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
"Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
"I will institute an independent defense priorities board to ensure that the Quadrennial Review is not used to justify unnecessary defense spending.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
"Third, I will set a goal for a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenal."<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
There were major cuts when the Cold War ended in the early 1990s, and when Bill Clinton won the presidency. The same drill is expected if Obama wins, and military planners are studying ways they better cope with a new round of cuts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously, we no longer need to stay ahead of the curve:ohno:

What a fucking bozo. Palin >>>>>>>Obama on defense issues too

<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>

It sounds like big ears Obama is ready to wave the white flag at all of our enemies and give up. Perfect. Just what we need. An A 1 Pussy!

Things Palin knows: She wants to drill in Alaska.

Things Palin does not know: everything else...this interview with Charles Gibson showed her to be a complete lightweight that has a hard time even delivering coached answers because she just does not seem to be "up" on the issues of the day.

The best example was of course the Bush Doctrine question. It was clear she had no idea what it was...and her body language made me cringe. Gibson even gave her a chance to define what the Bush Doctrine was and her answer was "his worldview." What the hell...everyone knows that it means preemptive war is now O.K. if necessary?!!!

In my opinion she seems a lot like Bush. They coach her too little and send her out there to get destroyed by real questions that she has no clue about. Its actually quite uncomfortable to watch.

Do you know what the "Bush Doctrine" is? Can you provide a link to such doctrine and / or maybe post a few specific lines from it?

The Bush Doctrine is a media creation describing his philosophy. It was a silly open ended question. To those with a brain wave, seeking clarification of the questioner's intent made a lot more sense than trying to read his mind.

AP headlines are so/so the next day.

Won't matter much as Ike dominates the news coverage

The interview came at a pretty good time...weekend/Ike

Another good move by the McCain campaign in case she flops.

Yes, and you can bet that PalinTron goes into the shop for V2.0 and won't be released, except in very controlled environments, until October 2.

Palin's climate remarks conflict with past views
44 minutes ago

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska (AP) — Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's assertion that she believes humans play a role in climate change — made in her first major interview since joining the Republican ticket — is at odds with her previous statements. Palin said she didn't disagree with scientists that the problem can be attributed to "man's activities."

"Show me where I have ever said that there's absolute proof that nothing that man has ever conducted or engaged in has had any effect or no effect on climate change. I have not said that," Palin told ABC News in an interview broadcast Thursday and Friday.

However, in the past Palin has said she does not believe global warming is caused by human activity. She has told the Internet news site Newsmax, "A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. ... I'm not one, though, who would attribute it to being man-made."

In an interview with a Fairbanks newspaper within the last year, Palin said: "I'm not an Al Gore, doom-and-gloom environmentalist blaming the changes in our climate on human activity." ABC cited the interview as being at odds with her statement.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has said humans have caused climate change.

In the ABC interview, Palin said she believes that "man's activities certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change. ... Regardless, though, of the reason for climate change, whether it's entirely, wholly caused by man's activities or is part of the cyclical nature of our planet — the warming and the cooling trends — regardless of that, John McCain and I agree that we gotta do something about it."

Palin also said that while she had not met any foreign heads of state, many other vice presidents may not have, either. However, the vice presidents who have served since 1977 — George H.W. Bush, the former ambassador to China and CIA director; Dick Cheney, chief of staff for President Ford and defense secretary for Bush; and Sens. Walter Mondale, Dan Quayle and Gore — likely would have met heads of state and other foreign leaders because of their extensive experience in the federal government.

Questions about Palin's knowledge of foreign policy dominated the interview with ABC's Charles Gibson. Palin repeated her earlier assertions that she's ready to be president if called upon, yet she sidestepped questions on whether she had the national security credentials needed to be commander in chief.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has defended his running mate's qualifications, citing her command of the Alaska National Guard and Alaska's proximity to Russia.

Pressed about what insights into recent Russian actions she gained by living in Alaska, Palin told Gibson, "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

Palin, 44, has been Alaska's governor for less than two years and before that was a small-town mayor. Asked whether those were sufficient credentials, Palin said: "It is about reform of government and it's about putting government back on the side of the people, and that has much to do with foreign policy and national security issues."

She said she brings expertise in making the country energy independent as a former chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

Palin said that other than a trip to visit soldiers in Kuwait and Germany last year, her only other foreign travel was to Mexico and Canada. She also:

_Appeared unsure of the Bush doctrine — essentially that the United States must help spread democracy to stop terrorism and that the nation will act pre-emptively to stop potential foes.

Asked whether she agreed with that, Palin said: "In what respect, Charlie?" Gibson pressed her for an interpretation of it. She said: "His world view." That prompted Gibson to say "no, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war" and describe it to her.

"I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation," Palin said, though she added "there have been mistakes made."

Pressed repeatedly on whether the United States could attack terrorist hideouts in Pakistan without the country's permission, she said: "If there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend."

Bush watched portions of the interview and "thought she handled herself well," White House spokesman Tony Fratto told reporters Friday. Asked how Bush viewed Palin's response to questions about his doctrine of preemptive action, Fratto said, "I don't have anything on that."

_Said nuclear weapons in Iran's hands are dangerous, and said "we've got to put the pressure on Iran." Asked three times what her position would be if Israel felt threatened enough to attack Iranian nuclear facilities, Palin repeatedly said the United States shouldn't "second guess" Israel's steps to secure itself.

_Called for Georgia and the Ukraine to be included in NATO, a treaty that requires the U.S. to defend them militarily. She also said Russia's attack into Georgia last month was "unprovoked." Asked to clarify that she'd support going to war over Georgia, she said: "Perhaps so."

On the environment, Palin said she disagreed with McCain's position against oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

"We'll agree to disagree," she said, "but I'm gonna keep pushing that and I think eventually we're all gonna come together on that one."

...even if everything you wrote above were true then you would essentially be admitting that Palin does not read or watch the news because she still does not know about the Bush Doctrine...don't kill the messenger because Palin did not know the answer to a question you, I, or pretty much everyone else could have answered.

the Bush doctrine is broadly defined, it is subjective, not objective. To ask "in what respect" actually shows she has knowledge of this media creation, and she needs to know specifically what issue the questioner had in mind?

Did you even watch the interview? Your characterization of her answer is laughable.

Here is the transcript (and obviously if you watch the video you see the dear in the headlights look along with this response):

Gibson: "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?"

Palin: "In what respect, Charlie?"

G: "The Bush -- well, what do you interpret it to be?"

P: "His world view?"

G: "No, the Bush Doctrine, enunciated in September 2002, before the Iraq war."

P: "I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell-bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership -- and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better."

G: "The Bush Doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense; that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?"

Gibson clearly gave her the chance to tell what she subjectively believed the Bush Doctrine to be and she replied, "His world view?" I think pretty much everyone has heard of the Bush Doctrine. If you had been asked about the Bush Doctrine are you honestly telling me you would not have at least said something about preemptive strikes? Please don't be silly.

What's the 'Bush Doctrine?' Apparently, it depends on who you ask. Most invoke it to describe the policy that treats terrorist-supporters as terrorists themselves. To others it refers to the promotion of liberal democracy. But to Joe 'A Joke' Klein Sarah Palin is 'an embarrassment' because she doesn't know it refers to... pre-emptive war.

Who else can we lump in with Palin -- among those who don't know that 'The Bush Doctrine' means pre-emptive war?

Well, Barack Obama for one:

In a conference call with reporters, Obama said Clinton would continue the "Bush doctrine" of only speaking to leaders of rogue nations if they first meet conditions laid out by the United States. He went on to suggest that being "trapped by a lot of received wisdom" led members of Congress -- including Clinton -- to authorize the war in Iraq.

"The Bush administration's policy is to say that he will not talk with these countries unless they meet various preconditions -- that's their explicit policy, and that was the question that was posed at the debate," Obama said. "This is the assertion that she made during the debate and subsequently, was that she would not meet with various leaders unless certain preconditions were met. Now, if that's not what she means, then she should say so, but that was the question that was posed at the debate."

So to Barack Obama, the Bush Doctrine means establishing conditions before meeting with the heads of rogue states. Recall that The One wants to meet with terrorists like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unconditionally.

Who else doesn't know what the Bush doctrine is?

NY Times TV columnist doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is either
Ed Lasky

Is there a vast liberal-wing conspiracy here?

The snide commentary starts off in the headline: "Showing a Confidence, in Prepared Answers."

I wonder if "prepared answers" were ever noted by many in the media when covering Obama?
When Ms. Palin seemed not to know exactly what the Bush doctrine is, Mr. Gibson made a point of explaining it — pre-emptive self-defense — and demanded that she tell him whether she agreed with it.
Repeat-there is no set definition of the "Bush Doctrine." Neither George Bush nor anyone in his Administration ever defined the putative Bush Doctrine. There has been an accumulation of ideas and principles that have been layered over the years and that the term the "Bush Doctrine" supposedly defines.

Ms. Stanley does NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE BUSH DOCTRINE IS; NOR DOES CHARLES GIBSON; NOR DOES ANY AUTHORITATIVE SOURCE.

Even ABC News has varying defintions of the so-called "Bush Doctrine"
One more point; how does Stanley come up with this sentence?
Mr. Gibson, who sat back in his chair, impatiently wriggling his foot, had the skeptical, annoyed tone of a university president who agrees to interview the daughter of a trustee but doesn’t believe she merits admission.

So..Stanley thinks that Gibson thinks that Palin does not deserve the VP slot? Why don't we ask him? She is merely inserting her poltical opinion into her fanciful interpretation of Gibson's body language.

tocco, but even when she was told what the Bush Doctrine is, or how it was then defined, she still managed to completely dodge the question and to say whether she agreed with pre-emptive war. She talked about an imminent attack on Americans? OK, then does that mean that she disagrees with the President? Does that mean that she thinks the Iraq War was wrong, because there was no imminent threat to Americans? Inquiring minds want to know. Unfortunately she hadn't been programmed with that answer yet. PalinTron V2.0 will be ready.

Obama was speaking of a Bush policy and probably mispoke by calling it the Bush Doctrine. Its pretty clear that the Bush Doctrine as set forth in 2002 (this was the question asked) regards preemptive strikes...and my guess is that if Obama had been directly asked the same question that Gibson asked that he would have said something about preemptive strikes. Palin's answer was "His worldview?" Please just admit she did not know. The interview was clearly canned, coached and strained.

Yeah, she should be vice-president because she is "wired" correctly...didn't she say the word "wired" at least a couple of times during one exchange. It was very, very uncomfortable to watch.

McCain was on 'The View' this morning. He actually did OK, fielding tough questions from Whoopi Goldberg and the like on their liberal leaning panel mostly in regards to abortion (Jhon Mac had let it be known R v. W should be over turned and left to the states)

I still think he is the weaker canidate, but that is just me.

Hehe, she answered exactly as I said she did, thank you

I started a thread about the Bush Doctrine, it's a media creation and it covers many different topics. Suffice to say, Palin was spot on.

Yes, she is wired and she doesn't blink. Scary PalinTron.

What the hell does that mean, doesn't blink? Does that means she doesn't think? She can't process new information?

Forget about the pitbull. The only difference between Sarah Palin and George W. Bush is lipstick.
