Jman,
I think your experienced enough to read between the lines and what prices to take. I hope the Dopes dont turn this Forum into the same as the Baseball forum is now -300 GOYs, patting themselves on the back for -200 winner etc.

I know the trend I always see is it doesnt matter who the players are the Teams seem to play the same every Tournament. Some over-achieve and some under-achieve, most never change their style of play but I'm sure all this will come out in the next Fortnight. :drink:

Journeyman,

As winbet stated...don't get sucked into those high juice games...these teams are here for a reason (for the most part)...plus, in most cases, the better teams in their respective groups might not have to necessarily win their last group game to advance or even with their group...

Some underdogs to watch that could tie some big opponents or possibly even squeak by with a "W" are Ghana, Iran, Tunisia and Costa Rica...many people would argue there are more...

Anyway, this is the type of tournament to take one match at a time...

Bet against traditionally average teams that are getting overhyped and too much ink from the press.

* Expectations can be monster in World Cup.. Portugal was a qualifyer in 2002, they were touted as the great longshot bet of the tournament riding off their Euro 2K and WCQ performance and they went 1-2-0, deadlast in group stage. Teams who perform unexpectingly well in the previous World Cup are targets this year. Nigeria and Cameroon most notorously were highly hyped up in 2002 as legit contenders, both were bounced out of group. Those three teams were definent qualifyers as "Play Against" teams.

* Always give the home team an extra bonus, the betting public never does. Home carried an absolutely pathetic 1994 USA team out of group stage, Home carried France to a World Cup title in 1998.. Home carried a mediocre South Korea team to the Semifianls in 2002 (and Japan out of a tough group). I don't care how piss poor Germany has looked, they'll be ready to go (and getting the calls). 8:1 on them to win it all has value.

* Teams in Disarray. Teams with off the field issues and controversies are massive play against too. This is a team sport and any kind of disruption will kill a teams chances. Qualifyers this year? Italy

Bets I am looking forward to:

i would advise you to fade costa rica or at least warn you to not back them.

they played :pucking: in all their test-matches so far. even lost yesterday against a third league german team (2:3) and lost a few days ago against a team of "hobby-players" and lost last week against a 3rd league spanish club. and so on and so on. their only good game was against the czech republik. they lost 0:1 or 0:2

BRAZIL:
and brazil beat-up the fc luzern yesterday (1st swiss league) 8:1. I will back them the first 2 games :103631605

GERMANY:

I am a German, but don't really know what to think about this team. the draw against japan was verrry lucky. it was 0:2 with 15 min to play and germany could have been down 0:4 or 0:5 (thanks to lehmann and thanks to japanese incompetence of shooting goals). the two late goals for germany weren't shot because germany fought itself back into the game. those goals just happened - there was no powerplay from germany, nothing.

i think one good pick for the matches with germany is the over as klinsmann seems to be more willing to win 4:3 as 1:0.

GL and have fun with the WC :toast:

I like all four of those teams also. Another team to fit into that category is Paraguay. Like them to get to the Quarters at +750ish (Pinny). Japan to make it out of their group at around 3-1 ain't bad either.

To win the whole damn thing Spain 16-1 and Argentina 9-1 have my money so far.

There is a prop of CONMEBOL (South America) to win the tourney at +180 on the site I use. That gets you both Argentina and Brazil in the same bet.

I actually do not see any big surprises in this world cup. Watch out for Iran though, very underrated team, but except for them, big teams going all the way in my opinion.

GROUP A:
I agree with you basically because both teams are Home teams, Poland is just around the corner and they will play against american teams that arent part of the top 4! (Brazil-Argentina-Mexico-USA). Ecuador just cant win away from home. And Costa Rica is limited, but I like the attitude and experience of some players.

GROUP B:
The logic way are both european teams, but I will not be surprised if Paraguay kicks out one of them, why i say one of them? because England tend to choke in big competition, and Sweden has a good offense, but his defense tends to concern me the more in that team.

GROUP C:
No doubt about this, this is the toughest group in this world cup, alot of combinations can let out Argentina or Netherlands that are clearly the best teams, but Ivy coast explosion and Serbia order can burn this two teams, I have seen a little bit too concerned Argentina and Netherlands.

GROUP D:
Portugal and Mexico are clearly the best in this group, Iran can cause problem to both teams, but they do not have to have problems with them. Angola is a portuguesse kind of team, because they were a portuguesse cologne in the past so, they are going to let the heart in the field for this match, I am sure, and if they do something good in that match, they will be poised for the next game against Mexico, I am mexican, but Mexico tends to play different from one game to another, the formation is all about the scheme in this team and as long as they can play a very very hard defensive game, they can be wild open and score.

GROUP E:
Agree with Italy and Czech, they are the cream of the class in the group, USA is a team with attitude and they can play in a very methodical and systemica way, they can steal two draws from them and put their chances in great position but i do not think so, just too much team, even with the gambling problems the Italy selection has. Ghana can really score, but not sure if they are going to try that much, because their defensive skills arent that good.

GROUP F:
The only sure thing is Brazil, the other 3 can take the second spot. Croatia is just too young and too old, strange combination plus little locker problems with the coach. Australia has a very good coach on Hiddink and they can play. Japan coming from his bad display on his own world cup, I think they have something to prove and in their region they are one of the bests.

GROUP G:
Even that all of you think France have to win all this games or maybe the cup, they dont are that good as a team, if they can put the act together will be huge, but I do not like the fact that they changed his eliminatories Goalkeeper sudenly one day for the old one, also too much hype on Zidane goes and Henry skills, this is the world cup and all the teams come to play, last world cup France was a shame and maybe thats the motivation they have. Switzerland is very defensive oriented team, very physical, just like the old Germany team. Korea is always strange to see and difficult to play. Togo is the fastest African team in this contest.

GROUP H:
Spain is always a bad experience in world cup, they really have the talent, but they just cant play in the world cup lately. Ukraine is very defensive oriented, they have a great goalkeeper and defenders, but they also have Sheva that is an awesome player. Tunisia and Saudi Arabia are just two teams that can do any sound but i do not expect them to do something for themself, just and error or Spain or Ukraine, is the only way.

I totally agree with what you are saying. However, this year the WC will be different from France & Korea because many of these player it is their last chance to show their capabilities.
