Turner met with Gates during the brief lockout lift in April. Speaking of the 2011 season, Turner said Gates "is going to be our lead guy. It’s a shame he got hurt a year ago because he was not only going to have his career-best year, but maybe the best year ever by a tight end. He’ll be a big part of what we do." Gates did not need surgery. Still only 31 years old, Gates has finished as a top-four fantasy tight end in seven straight years.
