Whether it was a bet or not is irrelevant to me but what's worse for RW is the fact that it makes him look like a total d-bag. I'd venture to say 75-80% of people now look at him and think "that guy is a dick and shoots his mouth off and doesn't back it up." Bad PR move. Get rid of the Twitter Mr. White.

He wore a free Mike Vick shirt under his jersey on a nationally televised game, I really doubt he gives a fuck about some twitter statement he made to some fan, lol.

non story. 2 days from now nobody will remember this. your trying to make this into a big deal.

it wasnt a bet, it got one day of play in the news, and it will be forgotten about in the next 24-48 hrs.

Funny stuff. This little non story wasn't the headline story but a tiny little blurb on some of the major network news pages. If you are some joe blow reading the news page website and read this story and don't follow football, you go "that guy is a dick." And that's what they'll remember him for but who really cares? I don't.

You've posted three times in the thread defending this guy. Who's making it a big deal? I couldn't care less about this stupid story.

First off, why is everyone calling this a bet? It wasn't. It was a promise, and White was the one who initiated it. It's not like some random guy on Twitter said "Hey, if Mercer beats Duke then you owe me season tix!"

Anyone remember this story?

http://phillysportshistory.com/2011/06/08/the-long-walk-home/

On this day in 1989, Pirates play-by-play man Jim Rooker wrote a check in the bottom of the first inning of a Pirates/Phillies game at Veterans Stadium that he never thought he’d have to cash. Obviously, the old sports adage that “anything can happen” wasn’t on his mind.
Before Rooker made his now famous quip, the Pirates had 16 batters come to the plate in the top of the first inning which looked more like batting practice than anything else. Phils starter Larry McWilliams was chased after giving up 4 hits and 6 earned runs while registering just one out. All in all, the Pirates exploded for 8 hits in the top half of the first frame, after which they boasted a 10-0 lead.
And that’s when Jim Rooker opened his mouth:
If we don’t win this one, I don’t think I’d want to be on that plane ride home. Matter of fact, if we don’t win, I’ll walk back to Pittsburgh.
Whoops.

As far as White, no, this isn't a legally binding contract...but it's an enormous dick move on White's part. He's made tens of millions, yet can't afford a pair of season tix that would probably cost what, $5-7k at the most?

I hope the Falcons front office promises him a huge contract extension this off-season, then when it comes time to sign it, Arthur Blank tells him "Y'all people are crazy, you want me to man up and keep our promise? LOL. Here's our offer for 10% as much..."

Looks like not only is Roddy paying up for his bet but making the deal even sweeter. One of the good guys!!!

Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White is paying up for the Twitter bet he lost.

White, who told fan Dylan Hoyt he would give him season tickets on the 50-yard line if 14th-seeded Mercer beat third-seeded Duke in the NCAA basketball tournament, ended up following through with his promise days after Mercer upset Duke, 78-71. A team official confirmed White would present Hoyt with two seasons tickets and two Super Bowl tickets.

Hoyt also will receive pregame sideline passes to any one game and will be a guest of White's at training camp, where he'll sit in the VIP section and talk to players after practice.

White didn't want to make a big deal about the story, but it took on a life of its own after the receiver was attacked on Twitter for not following through on the bet. The team mentioned how White was willing to follow through because Hoyt was such a class act about the whole matter.
"I'm a man of integrity and definitely a man of my word, and the kid is a great kid," White told ESPN.com. "We have talked about it for days while people were just speculating. And being a father, you have to be responsible for your actions. I have always been a 'say what you do and do what you say' type of guy. And I wanted to add some incentives because he was so cool."

Definitely someone in the front office took care of this

What? Why do you guys hate so much? He paid up big on a twitter bet that the other guy had nothing to lose. Give him some credit.

Nope. Its obvious just a PR move now since he was getting heavily ridiculed about it. Its a drop in the bucket for him either way and he will move on and so will everyone else, but he shouldve just settled up right away

Good for Roddy White... SB tickets to boot. It took some ding for sure, but it is what it is, and the twitter guy got what he deserves.
