TENNIS beauty Anna Kournikova is sporting a new tattoo for the Australian summer of tennis.
The 21-year-old from Moscow, who now lives in Miami, Florida, tried to cover the tatt up with tape during a practice session before last night's doubles match with American Chanda Rubin.
Looking every bit the model, the tanned Kournikova displayed the image as she leant forward to hit shots during the warm-up session earlier in the day.
The Daily Telegraph photographers snapped the Russian with her new look, which appears in the small of her back. Insiders told the Telegraph the tattoo was a sun design.
A Women's Tennis Association spokesperson said yesterday there was no stand-fast rules on the circuit preventing their players displaying tattoos.
"It's the players' choice and part of society," the spokesperson said.
Lindsay Davenport, who won the 1996 Olympic Games gold medal at Barcelona, sports the five Olympic rings as a tattoo. Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo features an angel on her arm.
Kournikova kept the tattoo under wraps when she played her doubles match last night with Rubin against Lindsay Davenport and Lisa Raymond.
The pair beat the Americans 6-4 4-6 6-3.
There was a more demure ensemble worn by Kournikova for her evening match. Cheers rang round the Sydney International Tennis Centre stadium court as Kournikova was introduced.
She looked stunning, wearing a short baby blue skirt and matching top, along with a blue sun visor. Her hair was pulled back in a long-platted pigtail.
Kournikova has won 16 doubles titles but has never won a singles title.
She is worth an estimated $80 million but just $3.5million of that has been earned in prizemoney.
