LONDON, May 16 (UPI) -- United States goalkeeper Kasey Keller will undergo surgery to remove bone chips from both elbows, his English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur announced Friday.

Keller will have procedures done to stop his left elbow from locking and eliminate the pain he experiences when landing on his right elbow.

The 33-year-old started between the posts for Tottenham during all 38 matches of the recently completed Premiership season.

"Now is a good time to do it, rather than wake up one day in January not being able to move my arm," Keller said.

The native of Lacey, Wash. has made 60 appearances for his country but will be unavailable for United States team duty at the FIFA Confederations Cup in France next month.

"It won't be a problem, though," Keller said. "I'm sure I'll be ready for the (CONCACAF) Gold Cup and back on a golf course inside a week."

The U.S. will try to defend its Gold Cup title as the champion of the North and Central American, and Caribbean region in July.

I really liked watching this guy when he was at Rayo Vallecano. I didn't realise he was only 33.
