Anybody have experience using alternate lines for spreads and totals? I am thinking about dabbling in this area. I see an alternate line tonight on the Colts/Ravens game and it has Ravens -14.5 at +210 odds or I could go the other way with the Colts at +3.5 at +155 odds. I know I am stating the obvious to experienced bettors but I am thinking that if I change my approach to mostly betting on plus odds I could come out on top even if it's just a small margin. I wouldn't have to be above 50% to break even or make a profit. I also like the over in the giants/dodgers game. My approach is to go 2 runs over so instead of betting over 7 I am betting over 9. The odds go from -110 to +165. I am thinking long term this could be profitable but have never tried it. Any thoughts on the matter is appreciated.

Two + signs are much better than one, on the same ticket.

That's just me.

Now don't be too too greedy Alice.

Once the spread moves away from the main figure its going to involve higher vig over time. I only move off the main spread in parlays to cover some key numbers. Betting minus figures is hard wired in the brain as risk averse so its a matter of over riding those thoughts to get the best odds.

I find alternate lines have significant value... so you have a team getting +3, take them -2.5, the payout math is sometimes amazing.

I remember reading once that bookies don't fear players that buy points, they fear players that sell points.

Sadly your wrong. It doesnt matter what line you take there is no added value outside the main spread. Giving up the 1/2 over time is minimal but the psychological hit at losing by that point is devastating, thats why we take it :103631605

Sadly, you did not read what I wrote...

I did not say to buy a half point, I never do that.

I wrote that if you really like a team GETTING 3 points, LAYING 2.5, for example, provides a large plus vig that is a good payoff, much better than the ML and if a team wins the game it is likely to be by at least 3 points, for example.
