Here are tonights selections:
7 Units Middle Tenn St +6.5 -108
Sun Belt battle and the home/road breakdowns of these teams tells a lot. Middle Tennessee (9-6) is just 1-5 SU/1-4 ATS on the road where they give up 78 ppg, while South Alabama (8-7) is 6-1 SU/2-1 ATS at home where they bring the defense, outscoring opponent by a 66-55 average! The run-and-gun Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders have 6’-3” senior Tommy Gunn (17 ppg, 50%) doing most of the shooting, along with newcomers 6’-2” junior Mike Dean (13 ppg, 43% FGs, 48% from three-point land) and 6’-9” freshman Kyle Young (6 rpg). Middle Tennessee State had an impressive 76-63 win at home over Wyoming, as 5'-11" freshman Bryan Smithson busted out with 22 points on 10-15 shooting! But Middle Tennessee is on the road here after a 3-game home stand. South Alabama shoots 41% as a team led by 6’-6” senior Malerick Bedden (13 ppg, 5 rpg) and senior guard Chris Young (14 ppg). The two combined for 28 points the last game in an impressive 56-46 upset at New Mexico State. Evenly matched game all the way around.
7 Units Wisc Green Bay +1 -108
Horizon League game and the visitors will have little trouble here. Loyola (6-10 SU, 3-10 ATS) has fallen apart, on an 0-5 SU/ATS run the last five games and they play no defense allowing 47% shooting. In fact, Loyola allows 81 points per game at home!!! Green Bay will be able to take advantage as they have plenty of talent on offense. The Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix (11-5 SU, 7-3 ATS) have 6’-2” sophomore guard Terry Parker, Jr (11 ppg) and 6’-0” junior Brandon Morris (11.5 ppg, 50% FGs, 5 rpg) running the show, while 6’-8” senior Mike King (10 ppg, 4 rpg) works the boards. Green Bay has won 9 of 10 games should be able to score plenty on a small Loyola-Chicago frontcourt. A year ago, Loyola won both meetings with Green Bay, but not this season.
5 Units Western Kentucky -1 +102
Western Kentucky loves to run (78 ppg) and will test a short New Orleans team that allows 44% shooting per game. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (7-8 SU, 5-8 ATS) have a run-and-gun attack led by 6’-4” sophomore Anthony Winchester (15 ppg), 6’-11” 250-lb senior Nigel Dixon (15 ppg, 9.8 rpg) and guard Mike Wells (16 ppg). Dixon was a force the last game with 14 points, 13 rebounds in a 74-66 win over Arkansas State. Western Kentucky should be able to control the glass against a New Orleans team that shoots 40% as a team. New Orleans lacks height and their two leading scorers, senior shooting guard Kyle Buggs (11 ppg, 37% FGs) and 6'-2" senior Johnell Smith (14 ppg, 38% FGs, 31% 3-pt land), are both shooting below 39%. New Orleans is 4-1 SU/0-3 ATS at home but WK should command the boards here.
5 Units Wisc Milwaukee -7.5 -110
There will be a lot of points here and the visitors should win. The Wisconsin Milwaukee Panthers (11-5) shoot 50% and average 79 ppg. They are 5-4 on the road with several strong weapons in 6’-3” junior guard Ed McCants (18 ppg, 51% FGs), 6’-8” senior forward Dylan Page (20.9 ppg, 52% FGs, 7 rpg) and 6’-7” sophomore Adrian Tigert (5.8 rpg). They are playing with great confidence riding a 5-game win streak and will score plenty against a Cleveland State defense that has given up 90, 78, 86, 83 and 75 points the last 5 games! Cleveland State (4-13 SU, 4-7 ATS) likes to run under first-year coach Mike Garland, but they lack depth and defense. The backcourt has 6’-2” senior guard Jermaine Robinson (20 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 40% FGs), while 6’-7” junior Omari Westley (15 ppg, 8 rpg) works the boards, but they are 2-6 at home and carry an 11-game losing streak into this one.
3 Units Cal Riverside -4.5 -109
Big West game and defense won't matter as neither team plays any! Idaho allows 46% shooting and Riverside allows 47%. Idaho (4-10 SU, 4-7 ATS) has a small team with 6'-4" senior Tyrone Hayes (12 ppg), but he's their only double-digit scorer. Idaho is 1-8 on the road (2-5 ATS) allowing 72 ppg, while Riverside is 5-1 at home where they outscore teams by a 77-66 average. Riverside has the better frontcourt here, as the Highlanders have 6'-7" sophomore F Nate Carter (14 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and 6'-8", 255-pound junior Vili Morton (11 ppg, 5.8 rpg) up front. Riverside is playing well, winning 3 of 4 and going 4-0 ATS the last four games.
3 Units Nevada -9 -103
A shootout in Nevada!!! Tulsa likes to run, and they had better because Nevada has a superior frontcourt. The Tulsa Golden Flashes (6-8 SU, 4-6 ATS) like to run behind 6’-2” senior Jason Parker (17 ppg) and 6’-6” junior forward Jarius Glenn (13.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg). But they have lost 5 of 7 games and have failed to cover the spread in 6 of the last 7 games. This is also Tulsa's first road game after a 3-game home stand, and they are a poor 1-6 SU/2-3 ATS on the road giving up 72 ppg. Nevada (9-6) recently won 7 of 8 games, but they're are off a tough two-game road trip where they lost both games, at UTEP and at Boise in very close games. Nevada plays great defense (42% shooting allowed) and they have plenty of height and depth with junior 6’-6” Kirk Snyder (17 ppg, 50% FGs), 6’-10” freshman Nick Fazekas (6.8 rpg) and 6’-9” junior Kevin Pinkney (9 ppg). Nevada is 7-0 at home (where they beat Kansas) and they outscore teams here by a 75-69 average!!!
