WEDNESDAY 4-1 +19.80 UNITS
Kicking ass the last two days (6-1 +41.80 Units) and looking to make it three after tonight!!! Here are tonights selections:
7 Units North Texas -1 +101
Sun Belt battle and the difference will be defense and home/road. New Orleans (9-9) is 4-7 on the road where they get outscored by a 72-64 average, while North Texas plays strong defense at home (60 ppg allowed) where they are 6-2 SU/2-3 ATS. New Orleans does not have a strong frontcourt, which partly explains why opponents are shooting 44%. New Orleans has senior shooting guard Kyle Buggs (11 ppg, 37% FGs) and 6'-2" senior Johnell Smith (14 ppg, 38% FGs, 31% 3-pt land) running the offense, though they are both shooting below 39%. In fact, as a team New Orleans is shooting 41% and a pitiful 64% from the line! The North Texas Mean Green (9-8) should be able to take advantage behind a big frontcourt of 6’-9”, 250-lb senior Shawnson Johnson (16 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 62% FGs) and 6’-8” senior Michael DeGrate (10 ppg, 5 rpg). North Texas shoots 44% as a team and allows just 40% shooting, so it will be tough for the visitors to score. North Texas will control the glass and avenge two defeats to New Orleans last season.
5 Units UTEP -9.5 +100
This SMU squad has talent, but they've fallen and can't get up. SMU is 8-9 overall, but they've lost 5 of the last 6 games. Defense is a part of the story, as they lost by 40 to Rice and gave up 84 to Nevada. They should be better, with a nice frontcourt in 6’-9” junior Patrick Simpson (10 ppg, 6 rpg) and 6’-8” junior Eric Castro (10 ppg, 6 rpg) while sophomore guard Bryan Hopkins (15.8 ppg) is a good backcourt piece. But the offense has been struggling, and SMU shot 24% in an 80-40 loss at Rice! SMU is 4-5 on the road where they're averaging just 61 ppg. They will need to score many more against UTEP's terrific offense. UTEP (13-4) likes to push the ball up the court (81 ppg) shooting 48% as a team, led by 6'-5" junior Omar Thomas (15 ppg), 6’-6” senior forward Roy Smallwood and 6’-5” sophomore Jason Williams (12 ppg). Fresno tried to slow things down and UTEP torched them for 59% shooting! UTEP is 10-1 at home (6-1 ATS) where they are ripping teams by an 88-66 average!!!
5 Units Denver U -5 -109
Tough spot for a short South Alabama squad. South 'Bama (9-8) is 2-6 on the road where they allow 73 ppg. That's too many points, and they lack height up front with 6'-6" senior Malerick Bedden (15 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and 6'-6" Richard Law. South Alabama will struggle here because it's a long road trip and Denver is big, with 6'-9” 260-lb senior Brett Starkey (12 ppg, 7.8 boards pg) and 6’-8” senior Zeljko Zupic (10 ppg, 7 rpg) up front. Denver (10-7) has 6'-1" guard Erik Benzel (15.8 ppg) balancing this strong team out and Denver is 6-2 at home where they outscore opponents by +10 points per game (72-62 average). Denver rolled 77-50 over South Alabama last season on this court and they'll do it again!!!
5 Units Saint Mary's Ca +1.5 -107
St. Mary's plays defense (38% shooting allowed), which is why they are 12-7 straight up and 9-4 against the spread. Pepperdine plays no defense (48% shooting allowed) which is why they have underachieved for two seasons now and are currently 8-12 SU and 7-12 ATS!!! The St. Mary’s Gaels have a strong frontcourt of 6’-10” sophomore forward Daniel Kickert (14 ppg, 6 rpg) and 6’-9” senior Frederic Adjiwanou (7 rpg). St. Mary's is 3-6 on the road, but they've been competitive, scoring 68 ppg while allowing 69 ppg. The Pepperdine Waves can score behind 6’-8” junior Glen McGowan (18 ppg), 6'-5" Terrance Johnson and sophomore guard Alex Acker (13 ppg), but they lack defense, scoring 81 ppg at home but allowing 78.5 ppg. St. Mary's went 3-0 against the spread against Pepperdine last season and they have the 'D' and frontcourt to keep this one close.
5 Units Loyola Marymount -3 -108
The San Francisco Dons have a decent frontcourt in 6'-7” senior James Bayless (13 ppg) and 6’-7” junior Tyrone Riley. Riley scored 15 points to lead San Francisco to a 64-48 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday. Leading 37-36 with 14:45 to play, the Dons (12-9, 2-3 West Coast Conference) used a 15-0 run sparked by Riley's 3-pointer to take control of the game. Jovan Harris scored 12 points for San Francisco and James Bayless added 11 for the Dons. The Dons shot 53% from the field, but only 1-of-7 from the free throw line. While San Fran is 8-0 at home, they are 2-9 SU/2-8 ATS on the road where they get outscored by a 71-55 average! Loyola's frontcourt and defense (43% shooting allowed) should be able to shut down this weak SF road offense. Loyola Marymount (10-8) wins with its frontcourt of 6’-7” senior Sherman Gay (17 points per game, 56% FGs), 6’-10” sophomore Chris Ayer (6.6 rpg) and 6-6” senior Keith Kincaide (12.7 ppg). Loyola is 5-4 at home where they average 68 ppg. San Fran went 3-0 SU/ATS last season against Loyola, but Loyola should get the win this year.
Good luck tonight my friend's
