SATURDAY NCAA BASKETBALL SELECTIONS:

Here are todays selections:

7 Units Memphis U -1.5 +100

Mizzou (4-2 SU, 1-2 ATS) has plenty of offense and depth with center Arthur Johnson (15 ppg-8 rpg), power forward Travon Bryant (14 ppg), small forward Rickey Paulding (14 ppg) and guard Jason Conley (19 points in his first game). The Tigers have Johnson, the aircraft carrier and the firepower to do serious damage. Missouri coach Quin Snyder must blend two outstanding guards, Randy Pulley and Jason Conley, into the lineup after they were ineligible the first semester, the load of five games in 14 days will allow for experimentation. Memphis (6-2 SU, 3-4 ATS) has shot well from 3-point range but that's not going to be enough if they don't play defense and rebound. Against Illinois, 10 days ago, Illini dominated Memphis' Erwin, Sean Banks and Ivan Lopez in the low post and shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half. The Missouri schedule has been lean so far but they have plenty of experience and depth, plus they have an aircraft carrier to dominate inside (Missouri won 93-78 last season).

5 Units Tulane +9.5 -105

Last time out, Mississippi State (9-0 SU, 3-3 ATS) got quite a scare from Santa Clara before winning in Overtime, 66-61 SU. State is a lot less offensive on the Road so far this year averaging almost 8 points less a game (73 ppg) than at home. This could be a problem against Tulane (5-3 SU, 1-2 ATS), who is averaging 74 points per game at Home. Mississippi State is getting strong inside play from Junior Lawrence Roberts (16 ppg, 11 rpg) and fantastic outside effort from Senior Guard Timmy Bowers (16 ppg, 5 apg). This is a good sign for State as both phases of the game are rolling early in the season. This game will played at the New Orleans Arena as part of the Holiday festivities down in the Bayou. Tulane may just drop State for the Bulldogs’ first Loss of the year.

5 Units Kent State -10.5 -107

Look for a lot of points in this match up, as the Atlantic 10 battles the MAC. Both teams average 77 points per game, and St. Bonnies gives up 78.8 ppg, while Kent plays much better defense allowing 59 ppg at home. St. Bonnies has a nice one-two punch of 5'-7" sparkplug Marques Green (23 ppg, 5 apg) and 6'-7" junior Patrick Lottin (13 ppg), but they began the season 0-2 SU/ATS on the road getting blown out at Creighton (83-63) and losing at Niagra, 107-98. The Kent State Golden Flashes (5-2 SU, 4-1 ATS) have a ton of depth and talent with 6’-1” senior Eric Haut (12 ppg), sophomore PG DeAndre Haynes (5.6 apg), 6’-7” sophomore Cliff Brown (10 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and 7’-0”, 250-lb senior center John Edwards (11 ppg, 6.7 rpg). Kent is 2-1 at home, losing to Rhode Island of the Atlantic 10, but the Golden Flashes should have little trouble scoring this game against a poor St. Bonnie's 'D'!!!

5 Units Wisconsin -13.5 -105

This battle is in Cleveland, Ohio, at a neutral court. This might be one of the lowest scoring games of the season, especially for Ohio's offense. Wisconsin (7-1) is playing great defense, as usual, holding teams to 55 points per game. The Badgers are 1-1 SU/ATS on the road, where they lost 73-67 at Maryland and won 64-53 at Penn. They'll have an easier time here against the Ohio Bobcats, a team that has only one double-digit scorer. The Bobcats shoot 40% from the field and score and allow 60 ppg. 6’-8”, 270-lb senior forward Delvar Barrett (8 ppg, 5 rpg) has not played well, while 6’-5” senior Jaivon Harris (12 ppg) leads the team in scoring. A year ago, Wisconsin won 75-51 over Ohio!!!

5 Units San Diego State -10.5 -110

Washington (3-3) has a young team that is just 1-5 against the spread. They have a one-two punch in 6'-5" sophomore Brandon Roy (15 ppg, 5 rpg) and 6'-6" sophomore Bobby Jones (10 ppg, 5.5 rpg). The Huskies defense has been poor, allowing 81 ppg, and they are 0-2 SU/ATS on the road. San Diego State (7-4) is playing great ball, led by 6’-8” senior Aerick Sanders (15 ppg, 10 rpg), 6’-8” freshman Marcus Slaughter and guard Brandon Heath (18 ppg). SDSU is a sizzling 5-2 at home where they average 79.6 points per game and are a perfect 5-0 against the spread!!! SDSU is off an 83-71 loss at Arizona (though they covered as a +16 dog) and they will bounce back with ease against defenseless Washington!!!

15 Units Air Force -13 -107

Road trip for both teams and a tough spot for winless Prairie View (0-7). Prairie View has had a brutal schedule, with losses to Oklahoma, Dayton, Oregon State and Texas A&M. This will also be their 7th game away from home in 8 games!!! They are allowing 80 ppg, while averaging 61 ppg, and they won't be able to score much against Air Force. The Air Force Falcons (4-2) play a slow, defensive style in coach Joe Scott’s methodical offense. They don't dazzle offensively (59 ppg), but they slow things down, look for the three-pointer and play terrific defense. This team allows just 49.8 points per game, behind 6’-6” senior Joel Gerlach, 6’-3” junior Tim Keller (11 ppg) and 6’-7” sophomore Nick Welch!!!

Thanks for these write-ups!

I'd like to know if we should like Kent any less, because they're not Home, but playing in Cleveland.
