Love the Don Trump stories. I just said the 100 mill thing facetiously to juxtapose it to Rubio's 100k student loan debt. I'm sure he didn't quite get that much.
I read The Art of the Deal like 7-8 years ago and from what I recall Trump started his real estate investing career in Cincinnati and made some $ on that deal before taking over NY. His father did seem to have quite the empire in Brooklyn though.
I'm just saying someone like Rubio I think can relate more to the obstacles of a lot of people trying to enter the middle class and be upward mobile right now. Just coming from a lower middle class background in and of itself isn't unique but not too many politicians have had to deal with higher ed costs like he has in these modern times. It is a relatively new issue.
Would this mean better policy? I don't know but the fact he's had the experience means he probably understands the severity of the issue. It is probably the biggest economic issue we have (and a pretty easy 1 to solve IMO, stop having the gov't subsidize the hell out of education thus leading to higher costs and force these schools to actually compete but that's a topic for another thread)
Here's what my beef is with Rubio, & also Walker & Bush not really them but what their donors who
they are beholding to initially thought they would go for: At a meeting of the Republican Governors
Association late July in Aspen, Colo.
'The idea that came up was to urge three leading candidates of the donor class — Jeb Bush, the former
Florida governor; Mr. Walker; and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — to band together and state that
they would not participate in any debate in which Mr. Trump was present, using his refusal to rule out
a third-party bid as a pretext for taking such a hard line. The thinking, according to a Republican
involved in the conversations, was that the lesser-funded prospects who have been eclipsed by Mr. Trump
would follow suit, and the TV networks airing the debates would be forced to bar Mr. Trump in order
to have a full complement of candidates.
Luckily, in the end the campaigns decided not to go along with the idea. Probably fearing a backlash
from Trump supporters who the party would need.Great. However, it’s amazingly — breathtaking, really
— stupid that the donors would even suggest this idea.'
