I don't agree with you.

Get all the illegal guns off the streets and watch violent crime go down.

My gun (guns) have never been used in the commission of a crime.

I agree. And, my guns never will be used to commit a crime either.

The number of firearms in circulation has gone up exponentially in the last 20 years (and the issuance of concealed carry permits has gone up 500%) and yet the violent crime rate has declined. Rather sharply.

Those are facts. So if your response to a shooting, one mind you, where you have no clue what the motive and the weapon used, is to call for more gun laws, you're frankly, dumb. There is no other way to say it.

Do we have a culture problem in America?

Sure. We have a culture where boys who want to play "war" or be naturally active are demonized as "hyper" and put on Ritalin or some other medication. Wouldn't any thoughtful person wonder what the long term effect of putting a 12 year old on a daily medication for say 7 years, is? Does anyone realize that with a lot of these medications the medical community knows how they work, but can't tell you why?

And of course some of the other cultural problems we have are a tendency toward reclusiveness, video games, and the trivialization of death, not to mention an explosion in single motherhood, a dumbing down of the educational system, and the gravitation toward the idea that "trying hard" is more important than actual success.

Wouldn't you love to see a Venn Diagram of these public shootings that had "on prescription medication" "single mom" and "introvert ?

Given the state of America today, I'm actually shocked this isn't happening more.

Picking up a gun and firing = easy peasy

Looking up on the Internet
finding directions to make Bomb
Figuring out how to construct it
Ordering various chemicals (most homemade bombs)
Having the balls to figure it out without blowing your right hand off
Transporting the bomb and hiding it in a good place
Detonating it at precisely the right time to kill people = HARD

Just throwing it out there. Just takes more leg work to figure out a bomb. I don't care, but most 15-20yr old don't even know the symbol for magnesium ions or the poly atomic ion potassium perchlorate......but they sure as hell can load a gun in seconds.

I blame a lot of it on the media. If they wouldn't rush to the scene and devote 24 hour coverage of the shootings, the loons at home wouldn't be getting the idea to go into schools, malls, etc and start firing away......

I'm not sure where some of you guys live.In my neighborhood, there aren't guns just laying around at bus stops or on street corners. You guys may want to relocate your families. It sounds pretty dangerous.

The Boston Marathon bombs didn't have "magnesium ions or poly atomic ion potassium perchlorate" in them. Just stuff you can get at various stores within probably a 20 minute drive for most people. This person yesterday had bombs. I wonder what kind of chemist he must have been to put these together. I wonder what college he graduated from.

You sir are 100% correct.

They should not release the killers names and pictures.

News reports make someone kill a person with a gun? Or, does the person make the conscious decision to kill someone?

I'd be interested to see how many murders are committed by legally obtained weapons compared to illegally obtained weapons.

I was laughing about that statement as well. Totally contradicted himself.

And I laugh out loud at people who think they need an AR-15 for home protection. It's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Not saying this is you of course.

You're right....357

To answer your previous post, I would guess that probably 80% of murders are committed using illegally obtained weapons.

I think that's a high number man. I don't know the stats though but that seems very high to me. Who knows though, you could be spot on.

An Ar-15 is shitty for home protection, honestly. A shotgun that allows one to get to one's pistol is all that is needed.

You are correct. All you need to do pump the shotgun and that should do the trick. Most people will bolt.

I laugh out loud at people who think they know what is best for someone to protect their homes.

It is beyond the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

And we're talking about you, of course.
