SIMULATION RESULT

CHICAGO CUBS 5, ARIZONA 2

The Chicago Cubs won this game and once again showed that they are good coming off a long layoff or road trip when returning home. The win, as predicted by the simulation, was Chicago's 5th straight coming off a road trip or layoff of 7+ days. The Cubs swung the bats in this one and continued the ngihtmares for Ian Kennedy as he lasted 6.2 innings, allowed 7 hits and 4 earned runs and struck out only 3 batters while walking 3. Alfonso Soriano had the big blast in this game sending a slider into the left field seats for a 3-Run Home Run in the 5th inning, that ultimately decided the outcome of this game. Paul Maholm was great once again for the Cubs going 7.0 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, striking out 5 batters and walking only one. The Cubs had lost 10 of Maholm's last 13 starts coming in. Arizona is 1-5 in their last six games in Chicago.

PLAY: Chicago Cubs ML +116

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Alfonso Soriano (Chicago Cubs), 2-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, SB

7/13: Detroit at Baltimore, 7:05pm (ET)

SIMULATION RESULT

DETROIT 7, BALTIMORE 4

Doug Fister did it again. He had another decent road start that put his Detroit Tigers in a position to win the game. The Tigers had won five straight prior to the All-Star Break and the simulator has picked them to continue their success tonight against Jason Hammel who has looked shaky at times this season. Detroit knows they have to start winning when Doug Fister pitches on the road because they are 0-6 in his last sx starts away from home but Fister pitched 6.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 8 Baltimore batters. The Orioles are now 1-6 in their last seven home games and Jason Hammel struggled allowing 9 hits, 5 earned runs in only 4.2 innings of work while walking four batters. That just won't cut it against this Tigers lineup.

PLAY: Detroit Tigers ML +101

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Miguel Cabrera (Detroit) 3-5, HR, 4 RBI, 2B, 2 R

7/13: Washington at Miami, 7:10pm (ET)

SIMULATION RESULT

WASHINGTON 3, MIAMI 2

The Washington Nationals continue to win and they do it at the expense of big time opponents. This is not a series the Nationals have ever had success playing but having said that the simulation has picked them to beat the Marlins and do so in a close game. Jordan Zimmerman had one of his best outings of the season pitching 7.2 innings, allowing only 5 hits, 2 earned runs and striking out 5 Marlins batters to earn the win. Zimmerman has not allowed 3 earned runs or less in each of his 8 starts (counting the ones before the All-Star Break as well). Josh Johnson was pretty good for Miami going 7.0 innings, 120 pitches, allowing 6 hits and striking out 6 Washington batters but it was his 2-Run double he allowed against Danny Espinosa that broke this one open in the 6th inning and Washington never looked back.
PLAY: Washington Nationals ML +111

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jordan Zimmerman (Washington) 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5 K

7/13: Boston at Tampa Bay, 7:10pm (ET)

SIMULATION RESULT

BOSTON 9, TAMPA BAY 6

It's shape up or go home time for the Boston Red Sox and coming out of the All-Star Break, our simulation has them taking the first game of this very important AL East series. It wasn't pretty but they did it. The Red Sox don't have much room for error and they came into this game having dropped their last five Game 1 of a series. However, they were 8-3 in their last 11 road games versus an opponent with a winning record on the season. Frankling Morales had a rough outing going 4.2 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 8 hits to Tampa Bay's powerful lineup but the Red Sox lineup was up to the task as they battered around Rays started Jeremy Hellickson for 6 earned runs on David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury Home Runs. The Rays have now dropped five straight Hellickson home starts and that just won't cut it.

PLAY: Boston Red Sox ML -107

PLAYER OF THE GAME: David Ortiz (Boston) 2-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2B, 2 R
