Saban?

wtf you talking about? not only does he not whine about the schedule he is the one that insisted on Mal Moore (and now Battle) scheduling one serious power-5 opponent every September (clemson, va tech, fsu, michigan, wisconsin, usc ring a bell?). Hell he's also the only SEC coach that is pushing to eliminate one shit OOC game each year to serve a 9-match SEC schedule.

funny how Saban gets blamed for everything these days. Guess ISIS is his fault, el Nino, Social Security debt, and shitty reality TV as well?

you guys are :icon_conf

I blame him for the federal reserve and the titanic, too.

can't blame Bush anymore, and we know nothing can be blamed on Obama.. so Saban is next in line ! haha.. crazy stuff

Sorry rt -- if that was inaccurate I would like to see what BDQH was referring to in his quote referring to what Saban said.

I never heard Pete Carrol whining when his team had to play Arkansas or Auburn on the road or played Ohio State on the road with a true freshman QB when he was top dog. Saban and Malzahn would come off sounding a lot better if they just said we gotta do what we gotta do and left it at that. Getting a shot at the NC was even harder than it is now with 4 schools getting a shot at the CFP instead of only 2.

Auburn's HC Malzahn was crying about how tough it is for SEC teams to play in the playoffs because of their difficult schedule. Aside from the fact that his comments were a bunch of B.S, he managed to overlook a few facts. If the season is so tough, how come the SEC West got their tails kicked in last season's Bowl Games? What about the fact that BOTH Alabama and Auburn have what amounts to bye weeks before their big game, with Auburn hosting Idaho (5-42 in the past 4 years) and 'Bama hosting FCS Charleston Southern. As far as I am concerned, these ratings are meaningless because no one knows just how good or bad teams are before the season starts. I am also getting a little tired of Saban and Malzahn whining about everything. Alabama and Auburn seem to be looking for excuses. That is not a good sign.

Once again RT, I took BDQH at face value. Personally I have a lot of respect for Saban and it appears I could use a little brush-up regarding the accuracy of what BD has to say about him. He snuck one right by me.

48.2 points per game last season after 52.4 in 2013.
that's insane.... 50.3 ppg avg in L2 seasons and that is letting teams off the hook in 4th quarter (8.3 ppg vs >=12) .... yet only 8-9 ATS L17 games, go figure

I'm with you on this Clover. Right now I'm concerned about the OU QB's proving themselves on the field against the likes of Baylor and TCU. Until then I'm rollin' skeptical. Don't trust any of them (yet).

I'm somewhat skeptical as well, trying to beat Baylor at their own game with T-Tech castoffs? Was Heupel really that bad?

What do you think about that line?

The line opened at 9.5 and now is up to 10.5. If I were wagering today, I'd take Bama and buy down to 10. Saban is 6-1 ATS in openers since arriving in Tuscaloosa. Also, I cannot see Wisconsin running on Alabama's front seven and if the Badgers can't run the ball, could get ugly. Wisconsin is replacing three key offensive linemen and that stud RB is now in the NFL.

My take for what its worth...............

Devonte Fields...remember him? He was the 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and consensus freshman All-American for TCU. He was kicked off the team following a domestic violence charge where he pointed a gun and punched his girlfriend. Fields spent last season in Jr. College but is now headed to Louisville. The guy can play...fits right in with Petrino!

Little shot at "Motorcycle Boy" but offering full discloser...Saban was also interested but new SEC rule put a damper on those plans.

Cash, before I would put much hay in the barn worrying about teams like Alabama and Florida State's total experience levels...I'd go back and look at their past four recruiting classes. Giving much credence to starters returning with these top teams is like trying to slide down a barb wire fence.

Alabama Game 2 - Summary

Date: September 12
Time: 4 pm EST
Location: Bryant-Denny Stadium (101,821)
TV: SEC Network
Coach: Rick Stockstill (57-55 in 9 years at MTSU)
2014 Record: 6-6, 5-3 Conference USA (2nd in East)
Series History: Alabama leads 1-0; won 39-34 in 2002
2014 Rankings/Game/National/CUSA
Scoring Offense: 31.6/49th/6th
Total Offense: 431.3/46th/5th
Scoring Defense: 31.5/96th/9th
Total Defense: 452.3/108th/11th
Returning Starters: 14 (6 offense, 7 defense, 1 special teams)
Returning Leaders:
Passing: Austin Grammer (221 of 338 for 2,557 yards and 17 TDS, 12 INTS)
Rushing: Jordan Parker (128 for 546 and 2 TDs)
Receiving: Marques Batties (45 for 474 yards 3 TDs)
Defense:
Tackles: LB T.T. Barber 72, DB Xavier Walker 67
Tackles for Loss: DL Shaquille Huff 5
Sacks: DL Jimal McBride 2.5, DL Shaquille Huff 2
Interceptions: S Kevin Byard 6, CB Jared Singletary 2
Key Concerns: The Defense that ranked 11th in CUSA

Sidenote: Middle Tennessee quarterback Austin Grammer is from Tuscaloosa and will be returning hope to play the Tide. Grammer, who compiled 2,999 total yards and 23 touchdowns rushing and passing last season, was a three-star recruit out of Tuscaloosa's own American Christian Academy, where he lettered in three sports. A two time 2A first team all-state quarterback back in 2010 and 2011, Grammer led ACA to back-to-back 12-2 seasons and state semifinal appearances his junior and senior seasons. During that time he combined for 5,560 passing yards, 62 touchdowns and more than 1000 yards rushing yards. He was not recruited by Alabama or Auburn. Grammer originally signed with Houston but later decided on Middle Tennessee. Got to be a big thrill for the kid playing in front of his hometown fans.

Looking at Steele's CFB experience chart, Bama is ranked near the bottom in total expereince at #124(Fla St. is last at #128) so maybe it will be tough going for them, at least early on. Although both these schools can probably just reload with 4 and 5 star recruits.

http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2015/JUNE15/DBJune16.html

not a massive factor but certainly something worth considering but not with the blue bloods of CFB. As clover pointed out the "reload not rebuild" programs aren't phased by experience factors. Last year Bama was 107th, OSU was 109th in Steele's experience ratings and both did OK. Strangely enough BC was 127th last year and again 127th this year. Not sure i have ever seen a team in bottom 10 in his experience ratings in b2b seasons

up top experience doesn't necessarily translate into wins. LY UTSA was 1, Indiana was 3 and were a combined 8-16

surprised at the barn having 22.2% yards returning. could swear i read a few months ago it was more like 5%

Since Mike Stoops got to OU Baylor has scored 45, 41 and 48 on the Sooners. So there is much more than just an offensive problem at OU. Unfortunately Bob has held on to the two people he should have let go 2 years ago, his brother Mike and Kish. The two worst defensive coaches in the league. That's what makes me skeptical about OU. Do I think OU will have another 8-5 season? No. Do I think they can win more than 10 games? No. Briles and Patterson are harder workers than Stoops and his coaching staff. And it's showed on the field. OU won't beat both of those teams. And they'll also lose at least one or two borderline games somewhere else..

Texas A&M Gives the Middle Finger to Texas Teams

Although the Aggies play nine games within the boundaries of the state of Texas, Texas A&M will not face a single opponent from the Lone Star State for the first time in program history in 2015. That's a lot to break down, and it surely has to be a record of some sort. Nine games in one state without playing another team in that state?

The Aggies will be playing teams from Arizona, Nevada, Indiana, Arkansas, Alabama and North Carolina in the state this season. You will not find any of these teams on the schedule: Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, SMU, North Texas, Houston, UTEP, Texas State, UTSA, Lamar, Abilene Christian, Sam Houston State, Texas Southern, Steven F. Austin or Prairie View. Maybe keeping the money in-state ain't a big deal with the A&M folks.

Perhaps instead of 'We Run The State', the Aggies should start saying 'We're Running From The State.'

Sooners...what do you think of the WVU/ ou matchup? I was surprised line is single digits as I had 15 on the game?

My number is Okie -13 but this is an obvious look-ahead spot to the RRR. Although, if memory serves that look-ahead has not been much of a factor recently?
