Mississippi Valley State (0-8) gave itself a chance for its elusive first win of the season on Oct. 22, before losing at home to Bethune-Cookman. After a bye week, the Delta Devils are back at Rice-Totten Stadium to host Alabama A&M (3-5). The Aggies are 3-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play but are coming off a loss on Saturday to archrival Alabama State. The Aggies last reached the FCS playoffs in 1989 and played in the SWAC Championship in 2020. Mississippi Valley State's lone FCS playoff appearance was in 1984 with star wide receiver Jerry Rice. Alabama A&M led 14-3 at halftime on Saturday before Alabama State came back to get the win on a touchdown with two minutes remaining in regulation. A&M receiver Cameron Young was tackled at the Hornets' four-yard line as time expired. Quincy Casey threw for 217 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-21 passing. The Delta Devils closed to within 38-35 with 2:11 remaining against Bethune-Cookman on a 16-yard scoring pass from Jamari Jones to Jacory Rankin, but the Wildcats added a touchdown with 42 seconds left for a 45-35 victory. Jones threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 101 yards, but was picked off twice. Alabama A&M has dominated the series with Mississippi Valley State, winning 20 of 23 meetings.
